Didn’t even see when this happened.

First Mize, then Skubal and now Manning. Never draft mostly pitching to start your rebuild.

I think Kirk hit it.

Management did get gifted Vladdy but they did a great job with the rebuild. They quickly turned the team around into a playoff contender. Not easy to do especially in baseball

Yup. I just look at the teams who made the 2015 or 2016 playoffs and tore it down to rebuild;

KC: 8 years later, no playoffs appearances and nothing in near sight.
Pittsburgh: 8 years later, no playoffs appearances and nothing in near sight.
Rangers: 7 years later, no playoffs appearances and nothing in near sight.
Baltimore: 7 years later, no playoffs appearances and nothing in near sight.

Jays have made the playoffs twice. Won 90+ games twice and should do both this season again. Clearly a superior rebuild than all the other teams in the same position.

Salary cap aside I’m only taking the Dodgers, Rays, Braves and maybe the Astros over the Jays team. Include salary spending, I’m maybe only taking the Dodgers and possibly the Braves.

not a big game pitcher. he plays it super cool and says stuff That makes him seem too cool for school, but so far It looks like big pressure does get to him.

i say this not to get on his back… he’s still very young and gaining experience. He’ll have a good year and will dominate games, but he Is building a shoddy track record involving ’big’ games. I think it’s a bit early to give manoah the ace status.
What about "Game 11 against one of the worst teams in the league" screams big game to you?

Kiermaier with the biggest face turn since Vincent Kennedy McMahon himself.
Kiermaier had a 7.1 BWAR in 2015, which is literally insane because he had only a .298 OBP and 10 home runs. If he stays healthy, his value is insane.

I'd be pretty ecstatic with 100 games, .730 OPS and 3 WAR. Just give us good D and get on base which he's doing above and beyond. Just a fun, fun player to watch. Him, Varsho, Chapman. They are all just so fun to watch. Springer and Vladdy as well. This team is special.

Are you being serious?
it was the home opener in a newly renovated stadium with a full sellout crowd in a year that everyone is talking them up as world series challengers. Obviously that was no regular game 11.

Impressive home opener. The bats are crazy. I would bet on every game going over the total this season. Tons of home runs

Have to say really enjoyed how that game moved after Manoah got through the early struggles. Didn't notice the pitch clock at all in the stadium after the first few pitches.

Bo with four fly balls to RF so I'm sure teams will be adjusting to that shortly.

I've always been a fan of the Dome, but seeing the highlights of it in recent years compared to what it was yesterday, what a vast improvement. Can't wait to check it out in person. From the new seating areas, the new outfield fences, the lighting system they put in last year -- that place is going to be bumping all season, and the team will give fans every reason for it to be.

Yeah count me as a Dome fan as well.

I never understood the talk of how fans in the early 2000s, 2010s stayed away because of the stadium. It was ALWAYS due to lack of team competitiveness. Yeah the throwback classic parks are cool and all, but our stadium is legitimately pretty cool too. and plus how nice is it that we don't get wet or have game delays with a roof?

I go to a few games a season now with my kids and every time i am back in i think the dome has a good atmosphere about it. Maybe some of it is the nostalgia factor as i was around 10 years old when it opened, but also it IS a nice place to see a ball game. Always has been. I can't wait to see the new renovations in person later this season.

Also been a fan of the Dome but I get why people dislike it. It is a bit of shame it wasn't built 10-15 years later when the technology was in place for a retractable roof stadium that still would give some good view of the skyline but meh. Better than getting sleeted on by the lake in early April.

Checked out the new ares in the 500L last night. I like the idea and they look good but (old man alert) its clear its for people who don't have much interest in watching the game. Minimal views of the field and during the game they're still pumping music from DJ's etc. Personally I'd rather go to a bar and not spend $16 per drink but that's just me. Based on the fact that they were both rammed the two times I walked by to check them out think they've done it well.

Sorry one more thing (old man alert #2) but the best part of the new areas is that the classic first time drinking alcohol opening day crowd seemed to be a lot tamer this year probably because they were just all getting hammered at the social spaces.

I would 100 percent take the Braves over the Jays but that's about it.

They have a rare combination of having a) a fantastic core of younger players locked up on below market value deals and then b) a strong base of veteran players to supplement them also on good deals.

That type of economic flexibility is worth its weight in gold. The Braves will basically permacontend for the the next 7-10 years.

Noted, but one thing three of those teams have in common (except Texas) is $$, a problem the Jays do not have. The O's, the Pirates and Royals may be the 3 lowest teams in MLB in terms of revenue and spending. The Rangers have money, but they just haven't spent it very wisely. The O's also are not really cash poor. They just refuse to spend on it important things like...oh, I don't know...player salary!

I actually sat through a rain delay in the dome. The weekend of the first home series under the roof in '89, they had it open during a game, but from my vantage point in right field, you could see there was a nasty storm rolling in off the lake. They started to close the roof (first time ever during a game BTW) but it didn't move fast enough. Just before it got over home plate, it started to rain buckets. They stopped the game, pulled out a tarp to cover the plate, and then waited about another 5 minutes for the roof to close fully before they resumed. I'm not sure if that's ever happened since. I do recall they had a delay because of bugs once, but not a rain delay. Anyone know?

I remember being at one in the early 2000's (looked it up and it was in 2003 against the White Sox). Last year I was at the Cubs game when it started pouring with the roof open but they didn't have to delay.
