This is where the analytics just ruin the game.

This was exactly the kind of situation where traditionalist stats and arguments would've said the same thing: bring in a pitcher who hasn't given up a run for the team all season to face a guy who is a far worse hitter vs lefties than righties. Analytics may have changed the specifics of the discussion, but handedness splits and matchup awareness has been a part of baseball since time immemorial.

Sometimes a decent decision goes bad. The only reason this is getting more stick is because Schneider has a less than stellar history of pitching decisions automatically any decision he makes that backfires goes under the microscope.
