WJC: 2023 Team USA Roster Talk

Was trying to get a read on his game last night. Did some nice things using his size to advantage. Wasn't sure about mobility. Whether it just looked awkward at times or is an issue?
Positionally Stramel puts himself in good areas to pounce on rebounds like last night. Skating wise NO he is not as smooth as a lot of his teammates. But that shot he made last night, on the rebound, was not easy in close. Good hands.

Looking forward to seeing what Lucius and McGroarty do. This looks like a hardworking US team, they're definitely going to be a problem.

Team looked pretty good after the first period once we got to some 5v5 time. Up front, the top line was noticeably dominant at times. Cooley looks to have grown a fair amount and was playing with confidence. Blake had a really strong game as well, but I didn't think Lucius or McGroarty were as good as they can be. Both the Savage and Stramel lines played their roles well.

On D, I thought Casey, Ufho, and Hutson were our best defenseman. Chesley had a solid night as well. Hughes will need to be better when the tournament starts. Not impressed with Peart and Behrens, Mittlestadt was pretty meh.

After allowing that first goal, Augustine seemed to settle in and did fine.

PP will need to be much better. I think I would prefer to have Hutson running the first unit with the rest of the 04's, as that group has a ton of experience together. That let Hughes run the 2nd unit with more of the 03's and be out there when the PP expires.

Peart will be much better once he gets to La Villa Strangiato. He also may be struggling without a Red Barchetta. Just wait for YYZ before you write him off.

Didn't know much about Brindley. Really reminded me of Bobby Brink. Good stuff.
Brink is a one-way PP specialist. Brindley is more of a two-way guy. He's similar to Marco Rossi.

Skates well for 6'3 215, but all players that size look a little awkward with skating.

With our strength (IMO) at RD, I would consider shifting Hughes back to his natural side and do something like:

Hughes - Casey
Hutson - Ufho
Peart/Behrens - Chesley

I was hoping Casey would play atleast a 3rd pair role this year, doesn't look to be the case. I think he had 1 shift in the first.
He had like 3 or 4 but ya it doesn’t look like he’s gonna be in the lineup. Oh well should be able to play a prominent role next year.
