I'll never understand why teams take players to arb, especially star foundational pieces, over less than a million dollars. He filled the 10.750, Brewers countered at 10.01, and then took him to arb. Insane.

Like, what are you thinking? Dude is gone the second he can hit FA.
I'm a Brewer fan and you pretty much nailed it with this post. I couldn't agree more.

That said, the likelihood of Milwaukee extending him was always gonna be very low and I've always expected him to get dealt at the deadline of his contract year, regardless of how arbitration went. They are a small-mid market team, they've got good young arm talent, and they develop pitching prospects better than just about any team out there.

But you are right, Milwaukee was penny-wise and pound-foolish in this case. I'm a little disappointed in how this went down.

Why anyone would mess with Bob Gibson is beyond me, made Clemens look like a nice, mellow guy on vacation in the tropics.
The only other pitcher in my memory who comes close to Gibson is Nolan Ryan. Close.... but still not at Gibson's level of sheer menace on the mound.

I had a chance to watch Nolan up close and personal when he came to the Rangers. Even his manager (Bobby V) and pitching coach (Tom House) were scared of him. There's a true story of a day when he was struggling on the mound and Bobby V sent House out to talk to him.

House asked him how he was feeling, and Ryan answered: "Like dogshit, but I'm still better than anybody you've got over in the bullpen, so why don't you go on back to the dugout." House couldn't argue with that logic, so he did....

Cotillo seems to think it’s more illness related than injury related with Pivetta, so that’s a good sign

Bello has a sore forearm, no imaging being done so hopefully just general ramp up stuff
$100 says tj for bello. They'll delay it until the worst possible time.

Very briefly a member of the Red Sox as Carlton Fisk's backup from late 1974 to early 1975, though he was released and went back to the Phillies mid-season, so he wasn't part of the 1975 World Series run.

Wow, forgot he was with the Sox. Remember him with the '64, 67 and 68 Cards.

Reminds me of Crash Davis' advice for Ebby "Nuke" LaLoosh. "Your shower shoes have fungus on them. You'll never make it to the bigs with fungus on your shower shoes. Think classy, you'll be classy. If you win 20 in the show, you can let the fungus grow back and the press'll think you're colorful. Until you win 20 in the show, however, it means you are a slob."

Perfect.
