The entire point of hiring Chaim Bloom is to try to recreate what Tampa has done on a larger scale.

To be honest, I'm a little frustrated that the execution has been lacking at times (Jeter Downs, the Renfroe trade, the Jeffrey Springs Era, etc.), but I still think he's generally got the right ideas.

That said, the record is what it is. I wouldn't fire him just yet, but I would understand if ownership feels differently. I just wouldn't want to see Bloom replaced with someone who has a completely different philosophy.
I think the ship has sailed on Henry investing like he used to. If they fire Bloom they'll look for a better nerd and tell him you'll have a payroll between 10-15.

Another Mock Draft from CBS Sports and they also have the Red Sox taking SS Matt Shaw at #14.

14 - Boston Red Sox

Pick: SS Matt Shaw, Maryland ($4,663,100 slot value) (CBS Sports top 30 rank: No. 11)

The Red Sox have used their last few first-round picks on hitters with premium bat-tracking data (Mikey Romero, Marcelo Mayer, Nick Yorke, Triston Casas) and Shaw certainly fits the mold. This draft class is very deep in hitters, both college and high school, and Boston figures to have its pick of several players who would go in the top 10 in a more "normal" draft year.

June 18 mock pick: SS Aiden Miller, Mitchell HS (Florida)

Full Mock Draft: 2023 MLB Mock Draft: LSU teammates, College World Series champions Dylan Crews, Paul Skenes go No. 1 and 2

Hell baby
Cora must get a stiffy benching the young players after they have good games.

First Duran, now Casas. Idc if it’s a lefty.
I was gonna be mad but honestly this lineup should MAUL lefties. If they don’t I’ll be thoroughly disappointed

Lamet going from being a covid szn Cy Young candidate to minor league deal depth in 3 seasons. Life comes at you fast.

Didn't Casas butcher a play or two in the field last night? Not a big deal regardless.

As of this morning, the 17th (Minnesota), 21st (Arizona), 22nd (Miami), 25th (Cincinnati), 28th (Tampa Bay), and 29th (Baltimore) highest payrolls in MLB would all make the playoffs.

The 1st (NY Mets), 3rd (San Diego), 4th (Philadelphia), 7th (Toronto), and 10th (Houston) highest payrolls would all be on the outside looking in.

It makes you wonder if the correlation between spending and winning is as strong as it used to be. It also makes you wonder what they've figured out that many large market teams apparently have not.

And if I were the owner of a large market team - like the Red Sox - that was spending more on payroll than Tampa Bay and Baltimore combined, I'd be pulling my hair out wondering why my franchise wasn't doing what they're doing on a larger scale.
Baltimore did it by tanking. Tampa is just smarter than everyone else
