I don't care about either team but just saw the Pietrangelo slash on Draisaitl for the first time. A two handed tomahawk chop specifically aimed above the glove's wrist protector and below the elbow pad. How could that be viewed as anything other than an intent to injure? One game is a joke.

Did anyone see that Carolina fan holding up the sign that says “you can’t spell dynasty without stastny”?

What a dumb sign. I wouldn’t even accept that sign after 1 cup win. And now that just spell it out, stastny has 2 t’s so it doesn’t even make any sense.

Their fans are dumb.
I did see that sign and got a (mocking) laugh out of it. I think, "You Can't Spell Canes without Necas" would have been a better sign.

The team is located in "The Research Triangle", so I'm thinking maybe misguided rather than dumb? ;)

Interesting sidenote:
Despite their current success even without the likes of Svechnikov and Teravainen, Carolina has 9(!) picks in this summer's draft, including at least 1 pick in every round.

Wow, I didn't know teams could compete AND participate in the draft???

Who'da thunk it?
And they have all their picks in 2024 and 2025 (plus the Flyers' 2nd round pick in 2024 from the D'Angelo trade/fleecing). They'll also have $24M in cap space next season. I never thought of Don Waddell as being a top end GM, so maybe it's that Asst GM Tulsky (who I want the Isles to look at) that's the genius. Actually, I think he really probably is a genius literally, but I mean hockey-wise.

2 more series wins for the Canes and we will have lost to the Cup champions. Well done Lou and Lane!

When have we heard that (or excuses) from management?

So Lou sucks and Lane sucks because Carolina beat the Devils? Got it.

Sounds about right.
You’re not reading the room right.

My post was a sarcastic comment about people that take solace in having the team that beat them advancing further in the playoffs.

With regards to your other comment, my take is Lou sucks and Lane sucks because they haven’t been very good at their jobs.

Ah gotcha. Yeah I guess. It's been a strange playoffs and that has been one of the stranger series. Florida vs Carolina in the ECF... Yuck.

Why, Both Cities are great ambassadors for Hockey. The Panthers fans are actually showing up, Florida (thanks to TB) is becoming a Hockey state. Carolina has rabid fans as does Texas and Vegas. Id rather see them go wild then seeing Edmonton or Toronto sniff a final. I hate all Canadian teams. Let them wallow for eternity.

Maybe. I don't think that I've seen anyone taking solace in the CAR/NJD series but I'll take your word for it.

Of course another reason for your comment may have been to quickly squash the notion that maybe the Islanders aren't as horrendous as you claim and maybe Carolina is actually a pretty good team. Nah, that can't be it. Never mind.

Wow... Ummm OK...

The Florida Panthers are "great ambassadors" for hockey? Come again? Not sure how or why...

I personally don't hate any team, and it's always cool seeing a team win a cup (especially at home). Even a sunbelt team. But I do appreciate a team from a "traditional" market being in it to balance things out.

Vegas has "rabid" fans? After 3 years? Hmmm.

All cities have embraced their teams and show up. We were told years ago that Southern Hockey will be a failure and yet every year the fans respond back. I rooted for Nashville to win the cup just because how crazy their fans were, I loved it. Carolina is annoying but they are die hard fans. Nevada is embracing the Golden Knights and show up every game. Why else did the Raiders and soon Oakland A's move out there?

Ill never root for any Canadian team, except if they face the NY Rangers in the finals.

It became very clear once hockey became successful in LA (and later in SJ) that expansion into warm climates would work.

I have no problem with these teams winning cups. I too rooted for Nashville. But Florida AND Carolina in the semis? Not my #1 choice. Especially if coupled with Vegas/Dallas.

And sorry but I'm skeptical that the "loyal" Vegas fans deserve to be rewarded.

To answer your question, the reason pro sports teams are moving to Vegas is that it is an untapped market with 40 million annual visitors with money to burn looking for entertainment. Oh, and sports betting.

Some hockey fans are odd. They have an elitist attitude that the NHL shouldn't have teams in the sunbelt. Yet, they're sensitive to hockey being a niche sport and downright fragile when someone like Stephen A. Smith mocks the game.

As far as my own feelings, it's only when teams abandon their small cities like Hartford and Quebec that I find myself irked. Those 1996 and 2006 cups and parades belonged in Quebec and Hartford, after so many years of suffering.

1996 Especially. After years and years of futility the Nordiques all of a sudden had a powerhouse squad. With a young Sakic and Forsberg... Such a fun team to watch. Then boom. Move to Colorado and win that very year. All of those guys played in Quebec the prior season. What a gut punch.

Sucks for SJ they haven't been able to get their cup - was pulling for that team to win one when they had their string of good years with Thornton.

I think Florida got a little too comfortable being at home for a week and then playing their second game (game 4). I think (hope) the trip to Toronto will make them a little ornery tonight.

I may be the only one, but I want a leaf/ Oil final.

Ridiculously unlikely to happen, but man would that be fun.

So. Yea. Rooting for Leaves tonight

Listening the NHL radio on SiriusXM the last 2 days and the number of hosts playing up the likelihood of a Leafs comeback to win this series was remarkable. I know they have a lot of Toronto homers but get a grip guys.

Hope I didn’t put the maloik in the Panthers just now.

Well we live in the same small area, so if you did, I will hunt you down and place a flaming bag of poo on your front stoop.
