Getting a good middle pair D at 22 is a good thing...the thing is...good middle pair D in NHL are usually guys that had top pair potential on draft day.

One thing I like to do when I don’t know the player well is read what the people who like him say about him. A sampling:

“Active stick”
“Smart two-way Defenseman”
“Incredible hockey IQ”

It’s all fluff.

To those that dont like Bonk, can anyone articulate why? Was Michkov the Briere pick and Bonk the Flahr pick?

Most big defensemen teams fall in love with come with plus skating. He is not that. I thought his skating was really bad in the summer. Less so in the winter. Average, at best. I'd say a tick below. Not a lot of offensively creativity. Thought he took too many point shots in the sample I saw.

You just can't take well under PPG CHL defensemen in the early 20s and expect a good outcome in today's game (rate slowed in the playoffs if that is your thing).

If you want to be glass half full, he was on the London slow track and this was his first year of Major Junior, which is usually a good bet for a D+1 increase, but...I don't think he has the tools in there. Lot of avergish ones in the box.

Lol, at least they have two drafts to get it right before Mich comes over. Rags get a slow talent guy to play with their previous draft busts, who cares. This was the Mich draft and not the Perr draft. We all knew at best they would get one good player in a deep draft like this. Also, Bonk will prolly be less frustrating than Provy, so we still won that trade imo.
