It’s weird how many big time college kickers get to the NFL and get the yips given how few good kickers there are.
Very few K remain with the team that they signed with out of college. Carlson has developed as one of the best K like probably #2 or 3 behind Tucker. But he had 2 horrible games for Minny to start his career after being drafted and got cut.

That example has caused the Browns to be terrified of cutting York. They fear giving up on him too quickly. Carlson had two bad games, so yeah, it’s easy to say the Vikings reacted too quickly. York was terrible for an entire season and has now been awful for an entire pre-season.

The Browns also drafted and cut Zane Gonzales who went on to be a good kicker.

Gotta believe most K not on a rookie contract are not with their original team. Probably just a few guys like Tucker and Crosby in the situation in the NFL.

But how do K get developed? Have to start somewhere with a team. And live through the rough patches.

It’s a mental game. Kids in college doing what the pros do. Almost exclusively practicing kicks with the P and LS. That and onside kicks.

A bad game from a K can lose you a game. I have stronger legs now and are expected to hit from 55 yards pushing close to 60 to end a half or game.

Jason Myers of Seattle is a solid K but played for Jax and Jets prior. Went 26/30 them 27/34 before only playing 6 games for them and going just 11/15 on FG. So for Jax he was 64/79. Then landed with the jets and went 33/36. Then onto Seattle where he’s gone 24/24 then a bad year with 17/23 and bounced back with 34/37. 75/84.
108/120 since his first stop in Jax.

Most 30 year old K have played for 3 teams in the nfl if they last that long.

Whelp, looks like Deshaun Watson still sucks.

This will blow up for Cleveland if he doesn’t get his shit together. I get last year he was sucking cause of the suspension but he didn’t set the world on fire when he came back.

But there is no excuses for 2023, if he sucks then it’s back to the drawing board for the Browns.

Watson made plays after the first two possessions, but his main problem seems to still be not reading the defense fast enough. When he's trying to throw from the pocket to his called reads, he's not hitting at a high enough percentage. But when he holds the ball, scrambles around, and plays heroball, he makes some great plays. It's a nice backup skill to have, but it never works well if half your passing game comes from scramble drills caused by a QB not seeing his reads.

Houston, he was like that too. Lots of hero ball. Needs to play with more structure and utilize his mobility when the time calls for it.

What can Cleveland do? They are tied to him for 3 more seasons. From what I see from Spotrac, Browns moved more base salary for 2023 into a restructure, thus they will have only taken around $30 mill of cap charges for the 2 years they've had Watson, while paying him $90 mill. At some point, even if they trade him, they'd have to eat that $60 mill difference on their cap. If they don't may hay with him this season, between the draft picks already traded away, along with higher cap hits for Watson, not sure what they can do to be better?

This scorebug is way too big. Was it like this during the Super Bowl? Feel like it wasn’t so invasive.

Haener just got a lesson on what he can’t get away with at this level on that 4th down.

The Fox Colorado/TCU promo is awesome too. Probably because of Hammer. Is that like Deion’s song?
