Slovaks had a better 3rd. Sykora came close a few times to getting an assist. He's an underrated passer.

btw, sorry if mentioned already,
Sweden's G, a 2021 7th round Vegas pick,
is the brother of a 2018 2nd round pick goalie

big boy hockey

Vaisanen has been good on the rush
emphasis on "boy" - would love to see the kid develop but I can't see him outmuscling so many players at the NHL level. He pretty much casually walked around 3 players. Barely had to fight them off.

That was just basically one clueless poster lol
I watched the game and didn't think he was very good. He had a few chances but made some really bad plays. His skating was a bit meh and his puck control was pretty bad. It's easy to get excited about these prospects who can especially shoot the puck, but keeping up with an NHL pace is not easy and i think we'll see a big challenge for Othmann when his time comes.

Thought he was decent enough. Nobody really stood out, even Mr Bedard who tried to go through 5 guys every other shift and usually lost the puck. Thought if things went right Otthman easily could have had a few points. He rang one off the post, was robbed by the goalie, and made a few good passes that weren't converted.

If it is not as bad as Brian Boyle was when he came into the NHL, then it should not be an issue.
I’m assuming this is a reference to something and not just a weird comparison?

Skating is so much more important that than it was when BB was drafted. I think Othmann has a high enough IQ to overcome his skating weakness, but is going to cap his ceiling just like it is capping Laf and Kakko’s.

He could have had a few points. But his overall game was bad. That's always overlooked when a player ends up on the score sheet. The goal in hockey is to score more than your opponent so there could be worse things. I agree, most of them looked bad.

I think the poster was pointing out how bad Brian Boyle was as a skater and had to take lessons from a figure skating coach to improve and be an NHL skater. But yeah, times are different and you can't be on Brian Boyles skating level (post lessons) if you want success in the NHL. These players are drafted so young, you rarely get to see how they perform against top level players when it comes to game pace. They look dominate among their peers at a similar age group, but all of those players aren't making the NHL. The competition is much higher and the pace is obviously much quicker. It makes scouting tough and for the players, they are thrown to the wolves at such a young age.

Hughes is the much better skater, Bedard is the much much better shooter
Different skaters for sure. I don't think there is a huge gap though between them skating wise. I think Hughes is more shifty. A little more smooth. Hughes capitalizes by pressuring, then making really pretty plays with the puck.

Bedard gets the step, and then is stronger in his positioning. Tough to knock off the puck when he is going full speed. He also has elite skating but he seems to take more direct routes when in scoring positions. Doesn't dish it as much maybe as Hughes.

To me they are similar in the way they can both control the pace of a game, and do so with an elevated skillset that few few players can come close to. Quinn Hughes had this too, But with Bedard and Hughes in watching them in multiple game settings it's clear they are both the best players on the ice. The small sample at the first WJC wasen't the debut he wanted. I am expecting him to start to dominate the play as the tourney progresses.

Slovakia (Sykora) vs USA on now NHL Network
Canada (Othmann) vs German 6:30 PM

Libor Nemec scored for Slovakia 1-0 already

Where is Gavin Brindley expected to go bottom 1st round? Would it be a reach to pick him in the late 1st if available? Seems like a Zuccarello type of forward. I really like his game

NHL Network just praised Sykora big time. Always noticeable.

That is how his name is pronounced. Ive heard this when he was drafted by the Rangers while watching the draft last year.
This is the first time I've ever heard it pronounced that way. Before it was always Si-KOR-a.

Big time. Slovaks can feel the ice is tilted towards the USA goal. USA gonna have to show some resiliency here.
