Korea giving Dalton a period of rest, which makes perfect sense.

I think he does well enough, he had reasonable success playing abroad and now is playing for a powerhouse Tychy but not an offensive D at the best of times.

Regarding the level, absolutely, there are 3 teams that don't belong here as opposed to 6 pretty even teams fighting it out in the past. But with Japan and Ukraine back in due time, it's bound to get better in a few years.
True, and from what I saw in Poland exhibition games vs. Hungary and Slovenia, those two should be going down to 1A for next year.
Believe it or not Poland has not played well recently vs. Romania, but I still think Poland should easily win that game given the situation and pressure.

We have just had successful women’s D-1B tournament few weeks ago in Korea. We should go for hosting the next year’s Men’s event whether it would be D-1A or D-1B. Our infrastructure has been vastly improved since the Games in 2018.
I hope they do, one thing that makes DIB hosting at times more challenging is that it's the lowest level where the standard IIHF World Championship regulations apply whereas women's DI as well as men's DII and below have less demanding regulations.

Lithuania doing their best to throw the proverbial spanner in Italy's works, not sure how long this scoreline will last but if I had no knowledge of the two teams and was told one of them 'doesn't belong' in this division, I might have a hard time picking which side they were referring to!

Muted crowd as expected but an audible cry of 'Come on Lithuania!' from a young local lad... demonstrating good knowledge of the promotion situation, I guess they're not all numpties in Nottingham

That's kind of you to say but this has Italy 4-1 or so written all over it... Italy looks like crap however, I agree, but that's more or less in line with their entire tournament. At the same time, the two most recent games have a lot of positives for us.

So forgive the ignorant American, but what is the symbol on the front of the Lithuanian yellow jerseys?

Italy's best players seem to still be North American born/trained, so we're probably a ways off still from a "true" Italian making the NHL.

The Columns of Gediminas or Pillars of Gediminas are one of the earliest symbols of Lithuania and its historical coats of arms.[1] They were used in the Grand Duchy of Lithuania, initially as a rulers' personal insignia, a state symbol, and later as a part of heraldic signs of leading aristocracy.[1]

Well, Clara is as close to being that as Italy has ever gotten, I think. It might just be 5 years or so.

Is it safe to assume that Andreas Bernard's play has fallen off in his early 30's? He was number 2 this year to Sam Harvey for Bolzano.. I thought he would be every bit as good if not better than Fazio.. Clara on the other hand is their future in goal.

To be fair, Clara has allowed 3 goals in two periods against the team that has scored 2 goals in the previous 9 periods. Probably not his greatest game.

Quite a few soft goals all round to be honest, thought the goal for 2-1 Italy was especially a sickener, I know I saw it credited to Zanetti but thought it came off Alisauskas' skate last which threw the goalie off - from there heads seemed to drop a bit.
Still not overly impressed by Italy despite the 4 goals in that period, aside maybe the aforementioned Zanetti and Pietroniro providing the gap in quality. Shame we couldn't have gone into the last 20 at 4-3 too, that'd have been an interesting test of Italy's nerves if nothing else.

This really was a moral victory of sorts, especially combined with Korea's unimpressive performance. Now the real game on Friday.

Damn Romania starting their better goalie at last and it's showing.

We beat these goons 6-1 in the February tournament so in theory this shouldn't be too difficult, but again making a bit of a meal of it, almost got scored on while on that last PP too.

Yeah I'm not sure if the big teams are out of gas or realized they can just mail it in but both GB and Italy look kinda awful in most recent games.

Bit dispiriting for the Romania fans (assuming there are any) seeing them totally fold after frustrating GB for half an hour and having their fair share of looks at goal. Third period they've offered almost nothing, perhaps partly due to knowing the game's already passed them by.

Yeah, 3rd is just expected domination by the GB. Maybe it's Romania just being deflated by being out of the game.

Really unnecessary hit here though, it's a 5-0 game for God's sake. Kinda surprised it's not 5.

So GB wakes up in the 2nd half and in the end it's what's known as "the Polish special" around these parts.

7-0's about reflective of the gap in quality between the two teams and the sort of result we should expect, but again took a curious route to get there.
