Maybe they'll grow 6 inches after we draft them.

Maybe hire some puck bunnies? :sarcasm:

wheeler's write up on 1 mentioned by Bader

Timur Mukhanov — LW, Avangard Omsk, 5-foot-7

One of the smallest kids in the draft, Mukhanov’s a player who won’t be on some lists because of his size but has also earned some fans for the skill level you’d expect out of a smaller player. He has surprising ability to drive play at even strength, get off the perimeter with crafty jukes inside the offensive zone (though he can drift to the outside in transition), and win his fair share of retrievals. Despite his size, he also played — and looked like he could hang — in the VHL this season. A quiet playoff may have hurt his chances of getting picked, but I still expect a team to roll the dice. And hey, with his summer birthday, maybe he’s still got an inch left in him.
The Canes have already drafted this kid a couple of times now, right?

I got asked at a job interview "if I was a tree, what tree would I be".
I can't remember the weird question I was asked in my first post masters interview.

But I distinctly remember thinking for a moment and having the interviewer look at me and say "relax. As long as you're not a complete ****-up you've got the job."

He quit a week after I started.

There's a shitton of different tree species. How do you hire someone who actually has used considerable amount of his time to think about such ridiculous thing? How do you hire someone who clearly just picks one of the generally best known ones on the spot without properly evaluating options on sound intel? You certainly don't hire the one saying "horse chest... nut" with a lecherous grin. Why do they do the hiring difficult for themselves in such a way?

Excepting for something really stupid I can't see an answer that would reasonably be taken as a negative. But I do see an opportunity for a candidate to impress if they started to talk through their thought process in addressing the question in a thoughtful, rational manner. Ex: start out with "I've never considered that before, but let me think about it."

"I wouldn't be a deciduous tree because I'm highly reliable and not dormant for any length of time."
or
"Probably a fruit tree because of the added value it provides beyond many other trees".
or
"Definitely not a sweet gum or magnolia because I'm very low maintenance."
etc.

I admit that I said at first "a tall tree", since I'm over 6 feet. But I figured they wanted more and added, "like an oak, because they are strong and reliable"

From nhl.com:

30. Carolina Hurricanes

Kimelman -- Dmitri Simashev:
The Hurricanes lack a top-flight defenseman prospect, but adding a player like Simashev would change that. The left-handed shot is a very good skater for his size, and also can use it to break up plays in the defensive zone. His style of play is reminiscent to Colton Parayko of the St. Louis Blues, and he could have a higher offensive up-side.

Guess the nhl.com writers are really down on boom.

Yeah how tf do you miss Nikishin and to a lesser extent Morrow if your job is to write about the NHL draft. I mean I know I’m not good at my job but at least it isn’t published for the masses to see.

It feels like you at least need to claim that Morrow and Nikishin are second pair prospects if you write that.

I’d also accept “who knows when Nikishin is coming over” if it weren’t a Russian they were drafting.
