Lukas Dragecivic was on the board and we passed on him. Disappointing. His entire family are oiler fans. His dad is a diehard oiler fan. His dad runs summer camps in Richmond BC using an oil drop logo. This was a match made in heaven. Holland didn't do his research. Complete joke. Kraken picks him right after.

Right hand D ranked top 30.

Yeah, the comparison between him and Dragicevic reminds me of Dobson and Bouchard.

Similar prospects, but very different styles.

Though watching him, it's not Dobson that comes to mind, it's (a poor man's) Niedermayer. I don't remember the last time I've see an Oiler defensive prospect look that "smooth." They've had fast skaters, sure, but there's a difference between "Fast" and "fast, but always in control.
Couldnt agree more. He looks in control with an exacting level of urgency.
Reads the play very well.
Sort of the opposite of a younger Bouchard who played with a complete lack of urgency far too often...lol

I'd prefer they draft the better player rather than the one that is an Oiler fan growing up

By those numbers I get the same as you for Dragicevic, but 50.733 for Akey.
I know.

Gary's franchise got to pick the player who they wanted. Dragicevic was hands off for Edmonton and everyone else picking in the second round.

No guarantee Dragicevic will be better than Akey but Seattle... is Bettman's project.

Lukas was ranked higher, clearly the better player too.

Imagine if Dragecivic turns into Makar.

Looks like Akey and Dragicevic will be inexorably linked forever. If the Oilers passed on the bigger guy who scored a lot more points and he turns into a star, this will go down as one of the more nefarious Oilers draft decisions. But they’ll look like geniuses if the smaller guy with half the points turns out to be a stud.

Maybe you should do some research. LOL at drafting someone because they are an Oiler fan.

This kid will never have a cannon of a shot.
But he seems to see the open net and moves to the middle like a vet already.
If he ever makes the jump he would benefit from having a solid net front presence from someone.

Would have preferred Dragicevic but unlike many others here I admit that I’m not a scout and have no clue if this was the best choice. Also, it takes 3-4 years to assess a team’s draft and individual picks.

I don't know the players so I can't say if I agree or disagree with the pick. I do know the Oilers have made some picks where they chose against a player that was projected higher. Nothing wrong in that if they know what they're doing. But the other side of the coin is that those picks usually have less trade value, which may have kicked the Oilers a bit.

Like you want an elite forward/defender, much easier with Zegras in the package. You want an elite goalie, much easier if you can offer Wallstedt. Dragecivid will likely have more value for a while, but if the intent is to keep Broberg, Bourgault and Akey these things don't matter as much. As for quicker trades they do more or less. The main thing of course is to have the pick turn to a good hockey player, but sometimes valuable trade pieces are needed too.

I believe I saw a few things posted, but I'll post it anyway. A bit more info on Akey for you:

Then my in depth write up on him for McKeen's, but it's for subscribers only.

Liking the Akey pick.

Tbh, I was hollering for them to take Heidt or Zimmer when they were still on the board, but Akey makes sense. Hopefully this 86 develops better than our current 86(Broberg)

His skating is meh.. his defending is bad. No thanks.

If you think Akey is a complete joke of a pick.... you really do not scout at all

Yeah you don't just look at points..
