If there's one guy on this team I wouldn't of minded seeing captain after Bedard, it would've been Connor Murphy. The guy just oozes character. Always says the right things in the media and is a pro on and off the ice.

I so hope Murphy can stick around when we become good. I know it's almost a zero chance with how that contract/age and the youngsters are shaping up, but I want him rewarded for all the tough years he had to endure silently and professionally.

If he can be a serviceable bottom pairing defenseman at ~35 years old, sure.

I don't think that's unrealistic.

He will either be traded before his contract or let his contract play out. KD did not sign him to the deal, so I doubt they feel he owes him something other then paying him his 4.4 mil per year. you cant reward players with contracts for acting like a Pro in a salary cap league. They are Pro's. We did that with Seabs and look how that played out? the Issue is he is already slow at 29/30 how slow is he going to be at 34? he just does not fit they way KD wants us to play. I know KD thinks we are light on RD. im guessing we take at least 2 on the 1st/2nd round next year (deepest RD draft i can remember) . and he has Kaiser and allen learning to play both sides.

Yeah i get it man, without you spelling it out. Thats why i said i hope, despite all the context pointing otherwise.

Although i disagree about him not fitting the style of D they go for. They want big and mobile, Murphy is big and solid. Im sure theyd want someone more mobile and better wit the puck, but he could be an ideal partner for Korch.

No games until the first preseason game which is next week - the 28th I think. Only training camp going on right now - but still interesting to view for hockey starved Hawks fans, like me.
Hey CLOWN,,, what game are you speaking of??

ha, my bad. I could've sworn there was a prospect game last night, but clearly I was way off on that.

I guess I have to wait till the 28th to get my Bedard fix.

If you combine the two groups the nhl lines look like:
Donato-Bedard-Johnson
Kurashev-Reichel-Athanasiou
Bjork-Guttman-Raddysh
Foligno-Dickinson-Perry

I’d imagine once hall is healthy he plays on the top line and Donato goes onto that third line instead of Bjork

Bjork is on a Ahl deal for now

Starting Lineup Game 1??

Hall-Bedard-Johnson
Kurashev-Reichel-Athanasiou
Donato-Guttman-Raddysh
Foligno-Dickinson-Perry

Kaiser-Jones
Korchinski-Murphy
Tinordi-Zaitsev
Phillips

Mrazek
Soderblom

Roll all 4 lines.

If we see the same Murph as last year, sure, but certainly not the guy we saw the previous two seasons. (not sure if he was playing injured or was otherwise distracted back then but he looked to be on the down side. He rebounded well last season).
