2023 7-Round Mock Draft 1.0

:blues

  • Anyone wanna talk Brandon Saad deal? Open to moving some lawn chairs around.
  • Small scale, I'd like to renovate the blue line, which probably involves moving out a Faulk, Krug, or Leddy along the way (not necessarily for defensemen back).
  • Bigger scale, I like Thomas & Kyrou as a foundation, but I'm not opposed to talking blockbuster for those with serious inquiries.
  • Also very likely to stay status quo and just make picks lol.

PHASE TWO: FREE AGENT FRENZY
You may NOT sign any pending UFA's (this includes Group 6 UFA's). Following the draft, there will be a UFA signing period. All UFA's are assumed to want to test free agency (this does not mean they won't re-sign with their old team). I will act as Universal Player Agent and weigh the role and salary offered from each team.

I’ll run TB if someone can take Dallas so we can start.

You’ll notice there is no question mark after that on purpose. Tis a statement. That you want Dallas. And you want to trade Johnston and Stankoven to me for Vlasic. :sarcasm:

SABRES ACQUIRE CHYCHRUN FROM COYOTES
June 28, 2023

NASHVILLE, TN - The Buffalo Sabres announced today that the team has acquired defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes in exchange for forward Noah Ostlund, a first-round pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft (14th overall), and a second-round pick in the 2024 NHL Entry Draft.

Chychrun (6’ 2”, 220 lbs, 03.31.1998) comes to Buffalo following seven seasons with the Coyotes. During that tenure, he has tallied 64 goals and 125 assists for 189 points and 250 penalty minutes in 400 career NHL games. Prior to turning pro, Chychrun spent two seasons with the Ontario Hockey League’s Sarnia Sting. The Boca Raton, Florida native was drafted in the first round, 16th overall by the Coyotes in the 2016 NHL Entry Draft.

During his time in Florida, Chychrun befriended Kelly Pegula, daughter of Sabres owners Terry and Kim Pegula. The two bonded over their mutual interest in hockey.

“We are thrilled to welcome Jakob to Buffalo,” said the Sabres GM. “He is a bona fide top-4 defenseman who will improve our roster at both ends of the ice. Despite his experience, he is still young and fits in with our core. We can’t wait to see him suit up in the blue and gold in October.”

The 2023 NHL Entry Draft begins tonight at 7 p.m. ET from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville. The Sabres’ first selection is in the second round (40th overall).
