Prospect Info: [2023 - 69th] Jacob Fowler (NCAA - Boston College)

It definitely is complicated, especially where we're at right now as a team. If we're in the Sharks/Blackhawks position like we have been years past, we sign him ELC no problem and play him a couple games.

Right now Laval and MTL are both in the playoffs (or in the thick of a race). This complicates things a lot more as well.

Hopefully it gets done. I'd like to see him go pro sooner rather than later tbh.

He may not play much, but since Hughes hasn’t been great since early in the season, Fowler might secure the back up roll at least. In the playoffs, it’s gotta be Primeau though.

Primeau has earned the right to start the playoffs as starter. However, if he isnt considered a possibility for the Habs down the road maybe you give the job to a prospect.

Pretty sure the players wouldn't like this. And I predict a battle between Dobes and Primeau in TC next year. In fact, I'm impressed by the way Primeau took this bad news to make it a good story afterward.

I am cheering for Primeau, he showed immense character and determination and regained his game. I am not giving up on him, in fact I think right now there is no better goalie anywhere in the AHL. What does management think longterm is the question.

Primeau doesn't have a contract for next year and I feel like both Primeau and the Habs will want to move on.

Even so, I wouldn’t risk their best chance on a championship just to play Fowler. Even if he’s leaving, you dance with who brought you. If Primeau falters, then maybe.

Definitely has to be Primeau, he's earned it (and I'm no fan of his). Even getting him into the ranks practicing/backing up I'd be fine with.

Our brass has been saying since the offseason that a lengthy playoff run by Laval would be beneficial to the organization's long term development.

I'd be shocked if anyone but Primeau is given the ball to run with in the playoffs. He's been terrific since being demoted to Laval and he took them far in the AHL playoffs a couple of years ago.

They won the AHL last time by turning it over to a guy who didn't get them there.
You can't compare the two situations. They're apples and oranges. As optimistic as we all are about Fowler as a prospect, Price was viewed as a franchise goalie (maybe generational) and the organization prioritized fast tracking him and have him on the NHL roster in October. Even still, it ruffled feathers with our AHL coach at the time, Don Lever, who was against the Habs brass decision. The priority now is for the Rocket to have a playoff long run. Fowler will have a key role in the AHL next season.

I'm not comparing Fowler to Price, just that if they made the decision to do so, as long as the guy they turn it over to is winning games and giving them a chance to win a championship. It will be fine in the room.

Dobes likely gets the run if the Habs are done before the AHL playoffs.

I have to disagree. Dobes needs a reset. I wouldn’t throw him into a playoff run. Primeau is like, 19-2 right now. He may even end up qualifying for ahl goalie of the year if he keeps going. (Not sure what that trophy is)

They'll want to give experience to a guy they are invested in. If Primeau is going out the door and they see Dobes being a potential solution. Dobes will get the starts.

I get ya on that. And of course if Primeau falters and they fall behind in a series, they could go to Fowler.

I don't know about Dobes taking over. His AHL play was never as good as Primeau's and he's getting lit up like a Christmas tree in the show. I have observed many goalie clinics led by former NHL players and current NHL goalie coaches. None of them are instructing kids to use the unconventional style and technique that Dobes plays with and that is being exposed.
