Moreover, you aren't going to find big mobile defensemen with offensive skill in the 5th round. Drafts just aren't that deep. The more offensively gifted available defensemen will be on the small side at that point in the draft (and thus equally flawed but in a different way). Thanks for taking time to watch him. When you watch someone of his profile, puck movement and retrieval will be more limiting factors than offensive output (provided he can reasonably defend).Players need time to develop. He is still a very young man. Not every defenseman needs to be great offensively. He made some nice tape-to-tape passes out there as well.
When I look at some of the other guys who were taken after him, there aren’t a lot of surefire better options. I’d question a lot of Draper’s earlier picks before I’d picking question this kid in the 5th round. The game I watched had several NHL drafted players and he caught my eye.
