You can't buy him out. It will ruin the Kings salary cap for years. It will have to be a trade PLD with salary retained for another player with a similar big cap hit. This would be a worse buyout situation then when the did so with Dion Phaneuf! Basically a bad contract deal for another bad contract, where both teams hope the player they get back has better luck going forward. I'm telling you, if the Kings can retain something like $3 million per year and in return Darcy Kuemper who has 3 years left @ $5.250 million per year, then the Kings only need to find another players contract to trade off, maybe add a 2nd or 3rd pick as well, to get away from PLD and his contract. As a Caps fan(1st, Kings 2nd), I can tell you PLD offensive skill set would be a better fit for the Caps, but not at $8.5 million per year. Backstrom has one year left on LTIR for $9.2 million, so they can take on PLD contract but reduced annual.

Luc and Rob are a waste of time and money.
Only solution for PL Duzaster is a contract termination. Just need an off ice incident to trigger it. He’ll get his money back in a settlement and his next deal, which you know some team will take a chance on. Happened to both Kane and Perry and neither SJ nor Chicago have any dead cap hits from them.

Look above at that bold white column! I don't care which owner you are or if it was you as an NHL owner. Would you want to pay all that money to one player that is no longer on the team you own, just because the GM at the time screwed up?! I think not! It's better try to trade for another bad contract or cough up some picks and retain salary then buying out PLD contract.

His NTC doesn't kick in until July 1st.
There are teams dumb enough to take him on in a trade IMO. They'll look at his physical attributes and age. They'll think "40pts is pretty good for a third line center". Look at all that upside! Maybe he just needs a change of scenery.
Kings would probably have to take a bad contract back though.
Contract termination requires either a breach of contract or mutual agreement between the player and team.
Do whatever it takes. f*** a buyout. 14 years is ridiculous.

As I said, it would be more disastrous then when the Kings bought out Dion Phaneuf's contract!
To move PLD, we would need to retain salary/take on a bad contract and give assets. So one of Clarke/Fagemo/or whatever other prospect people are sweet on. There is no GM waiting for Blake to call him and offer PLD no strings attached. lol

For 14 years? As an owner, you find a new GM and coach that can find a way to get this guy going within the roster. TMac was terrible getting the most offense from our forwards and Hiller is not much better.

Clarke should be a no. He is the Kings best option as a top 4 offensive d-man. I could see Clarke putting up more points per season than Doughty ever has done!
I mean, that's the point. The Kings will have to give something up to entice a team to take on an 8.5mil/8yrs 40pt player and hope he has a moment of clarity on his career.

I think it’s more likely AEG hires a hacker to plant child porn on PL’s iPhone than finding a team to take that contract. Maybe if Ottawa still had Dorion as GM. Although Mike Grier has looked like a real dunce so far, so SJ is a possibility.
Utah has space and maybe a fresh start for the franchise and this player could be magic. Buffalo? Hard to see their GM who is on the hot seat do it. Lou Lamorello is always a wild card. Maybe he would do Horvat straight for PL. Could work for both teams.
Minnesota has no room. I guess Chicago is another potential place with room. What else is there? Pittsburgh?
Think they Mike Richards him? PLD better triple check his bags before they cross the border on Monday.

Caps need young offensive talent and Kings need starting caliber goalie who has playoff experience. That is why I keep mentioning Darcy Kuemper. Kuemper has had some success with the Kings before and I believe he can again. I have seen multiple goalies come to the Kings and strongly improve their numbers. Kuemper is a Cup Winning goalie and good locker room type guy. This Kings team needs more playoff winning experience besides Kopitar/Doughty

Well its a pick your poison situation. The benefit of the buyout is you avoid having to deal with his NMC and the cap hits is 1.1m for most of the 13 season - which is ugly but liveable as compared to something like Parise + Suter for 15mil for 4 seasons.. where it ruins your chances to compete. The main thing is the NMC which kicks in limiting your flexibility in moving him somewhere for a different more useful bad contract. He's such a malcontent Im sure there are only a few teams he'd waive his NMC. Its truly a clusterf*** that Blake has put this org into. Shame on him.
Another poster said Kuemper is washed. Do you disagree?

No his cap hit is not $1.1 million for most of the 14 years! It much higher in certain years. Look again at the chart I posted.

Naw, he’ll go straight to rehab and be back after the next all star break. Pretty sure his cap hit remains while he does yoga in Malibu.

You buyout PLD, from '26 to '31, the teams cap hit total will be close to $17.5 million! In 3 straight years, the Kings will have a cap hit of almost $4 million per year eating up their salary cap space!

I heavily doubt that "shakeups" will extend as far as Luc. The most likely scenario if they fire Blake is that Luc stays and Marc Bergevin steps in. And the Kings will be doubly f***ed.

You know it’s gonna be attaboys and a job well done just for making the playoffs. Blake is going to get promoted to GM emeritus and work part time. Sturm is going to be promoted and talked about like this was the plan all along.
The media clowns are going to put on the show of their lives this offseason to blow smoke up the collective ass of the fan base.
Unfortunately PLD himself is a living, breathing NTC. Whether he has one in his contract is irrelevant as he’ll just quiet-quit if he’s moved to any team that he doesn’t want to be on, something that I’m sure he and Pat will make clear to any team thinking of trading for him.
