You can't buy him out. It will ruin the Kings salary cap for years. It will have to be a trade PLD with salary retained for another player with a similar big cap hit. This would be a worse buyout situation then when the did so with Dion Phaneuf! Basically a bad contract deal for another bad contract, where both teams hope the player they get back has better luck going forward. I'm telling you, if the Kings can retain something like $3 million per year and in return Darcy Kuemper who has 3 years left @ $5.250 million per year, then the Kings only need to find another players contract to trade off, maybe add a 2nd or 3rd pick as well, to get away from PLD and his contract. As a Caps fan(1st, Kings 2nd), I can tell you PLD offensive skill set would be a better fit for the Caps, but not at $8.5 million per year. Backstrom has one year left on LTIR for $9.2 million, so they can take on PLD contract but reduced annual.
