2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

We're lucky that Yak didn't fall more than 26th

Assist for Montgomery

Back to back hatties for Halttunen. He has an absolutely ridiculous shot. The damage he's done to Oshawa the past 2 championship series is absoluetly insane. 4 hatricks in 8 games, 15 goals and 3 assists in 8 games.

Sharks are going to be ridiculous very soon

They have guys like Celebrini, Eklund, Smith, Dickinson and yet Halttunen might be their most exciting prospect

But it doesn't stop there, Gushchin, Musty, Chernyshov, Bystedt, Lund, Bordeleau, Graf, Kovalenko... so many young players and that's without even looking at D or G. They have done an incredible rebuild so far and the right way. They just stockpiled assets and drafted well, they're not half-assing anything, just continue to do smart asset management

They could be adding Misa to that group at the Draft as well. Maybe Schaefer if he gets passed at 1OA

Oh yeah, they're adding the 2nd OA pick too, damn they're lucky. Curious to see if they start adding better quality vets this summer.

Speaking of the draft, is it said that there's a drop after the Top-6 this year? What are the tiers? Schaefer and Misa alone in the first tier?

Dickinson 3rd
Levshunov 4th
Buium 10th
Parekh 11th
Siliyev 12th

Demidov 1 (2024 5OA) Dickinson 3 (2024 11 OA) Catton 5 (2024 8OA) good for them

I know Brock Otten was high on Dickinson I think He or McKeens had him going 7 at the draft... not sure

obviously these prospect rankings create debates. I don't have access so I don't know what their criteria was it looks like they have 2022 drafted prospects on the top 30 list visible in the tweet

I would put Schaefer and Misa in the top tier and then maybe Martone and Hagens in the next tier but even there we don't see consensus ..we start to see more movement after that for who the next 3-4 players are ranked.

Merilinen is the only other Sens prospect in the top 100, 90th. 7th goalie.

Halliday is 187th.

Sens - 3 guys, Ostapchuk not there
Flames - 9 guys
Leafs - 2 guys, 2 that were traded at the deadline
Canucks - 4 guys
Habs - 10 guys
Oilers - 2 guys
Jets - 6 guys

7 of the top 30 guys on their rankings are Russian. The amount of talent the Sens have left off the board the entirety of it's rebuiild is insane.

How many guys for Detroit and Buffaloed?

Yeah looks like Sabres are never making the playoffs. Detroit definitely scares me, but who knows. They seem to always underachieve.
Well the Sabres graduated Kulich (2022) Benson (2023) Rosen(2021) and Power (2021) from 2021-23, with Detroit graduating Kasper (2022) and Edvinsson (2021), and the Sens have graduated none with no real NHL prospects from 2021-2023

Sens have Sanderson/Stu/Grieg/Kleven from 2020, Wings have Raymond, Sabres have Peterka and Quinn. Sens are 2/3 years ahead in the movement of their youth

And to think we could have added Peterka to that group... Assuming we drafted Peterka in 2020, how would our playoff lines have looked? Would we even have traded for Zetterlund?

Tkachuk-Stützle-Peterka
Giroux-Cozens-Batherson
Greig-Pinto-Amadio
Ostapchuk-Gaudette-Perron

I mean a lot of these guys are whatever.

Gushkin?! Scouching wanted tot sake that guy in the top 10! Gushkin and Noel Gunler

Nice to see the Flames cumulating good young talent despite being competitive.

Now they just need to find a way to add elite talent. They have the 18th and 22nd OA picks in the upcoming draft. Could they package some picks and prospects to add a guy with more offensive impact?

Canucks are in bad shape. With how inconsistent Elias Pettersson has been and the Hughes rumors, plus the Willander dispute and a bad prospect pool outside of Lekkerimaki and 2-3 guys

In the East, no idea what is going to happen with Toronto, depends on Marner and Tavares, Knies... Matthews and his injuries. A lot of guys are getting older and they don't have much of a prospect pool all of sudden

Habs are unfortunately going to be our major threat like I predicted last year.

I mean a lot of these guys are whatever.

Gushkin?! Scouching wanted tot sake that guy in the top 10! Gushkin and Noel Gunler

When we're talking about prospects, of course not all guys end up being significant players but it doesn't matter; the goal is to have several of guys with that kind of potential. We might only have Yakemchuk and Merilainen with that potential at the moment and that's it.

Gushchin is an elite talent in terms of skill, his main problem is a small stature. He was already a PPG Winger in the AHL at 21 y/o. Sharks are going to be a force, even if you think that some of these guys are whatever.

Even with the Jets struggles, they have a strong pool, and always do well in the regular season at least. Hope they can get over the hump.

Worth noting that McKeens had Yakemchuk ranked 10th on their final 2024 draft list. They had Dickinson 3rd, Levshunov 6th, Silayev 8th, Buium 9th and Parekh 11th.

Says a lot about what they thought of Yakemchuk's year, because often these lists are just a continuation on who they always preferred. But this isn't a scouting service that wasn't high on him to begin with. To them, he's basically fallen off the pack.

who are the 6 goalies ahead of Merilainen? .

Askarov, Cossa, Fowler, Wallstedt, Augustine and Hrabal

He should be ahead of several of those guys after his rock solid NHL stint, but he doesn't have the same kind of name recognition as some of the guys drafted higher.

Not to mention his .913 SV% in Belleville this year was extremely impressive considering the next best goalie (Subban) had a .883 SV%..

Belleville was a train-wreck defensively and he won them a lot more games than they should have won.
