2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

Me neither. But over the past 4 years they’ve been better than we have. We’ve probably been the worst in the league.

So yeah I would swap our drafting with their theirs quite easily

Still not true to say they come out of every draft with a better haul.

Definitely way to early to say that for the 2024 draft in particular.

Yea, we have 0 since 2021 despite finishing bottom 10 every every. That’s kind of the point.
You are talking like the Leafs have a great drafting record. They have 1 player, Knies.

I am not trying to defend the Senators, but our tip picks went towards players, thanks to the dummy GMPD. The fact SS has turned those brutal trades into Ullmark and Jensen is amazing.

yeah too early on 2024 but early returns not looking good.

2021 they came out with the better draft. Same with 2022. And same with 2023.

Like the fact they even got respectable prospects out of those drafts means they blew ours out of the water

Still too early to say for 23 but it’s not trending well.

I’m not seeing anything earth shattering from the leafs in 2024 either. Lets be honest, this board would probably be shitting on Danford if he was in our pool.

We had much better drafts than them in 2017, 2018, 2019, 2020. We just have to try (1) keeping at least some of our high value picks; (2) not always trying to be the smartest guys in the room. The pendulum definitely needs to come back a little from the physical aspect on the draft targets.

Well I’m talking specifically since 2020. Where there was a clear choice that we had enough talent and needed high PIM players now. And they have seemingly not given up on that vision since then

Yakemchuk scored 49 points this season. Parekh scored 107 points.

What were we thinking, Parekh looks like the next Erik Karlsson. Was this just another case of draft the bigger guy? Embarrassing.

Parekh has more warts than karlsson.

I think Parekh ends up the worst of Buium Dickinson Parekh

probably the best pp qb. But as far as 2 way D go I agree

Parekh and Yakemchuk are both playing in Calgary for a bit. Flames are close to being eliminated so Parekh should get in a couple games

The Hitmen play Lethbridge who finished 7 pts behind them and had a +27 goal diff compared to the Hitmen's +83 .. thanks to Yakemchuk's vastly improved defensive game. Should be a better series than the last one as far as competition is concerned.

Where do you put Yakemchuk relative to those three?
The bottom. But I don’t watch all of them all the time. There’s some things that can’t be ignored though when comparing those 4.

3 of them are absolute studs

I was anti Parekh in the draft. But 107 points simply cannnot be ignored.

Always and everywhere the staff is updated. Some updates are needed for the Senators too. But stop talking nonsense about bad scouts. The Senators scouts are at a normal average level in the NHL. It could be better, but it could be worse.

The last 4 drafts have not been average

Lots of guys have looked like the next Karlsson. Except for Makar, none have come close.

Lots of dmen have gone on to have great NHL careers without scoring 107 points in junior.

Is Yakemchuk the strongest defensive defenceman of his draft year?

How many d men had 107 points in junior that weren’t at least good nhl players. Modern day most seem to be quite good

I am guessing we didn't take Dickinson or Buium because they shoot left.

You will be able to see the full results of the last four drafts over the next 4 years, but not now.
No you should see the results of your drafts pretty quickly in junior.

If you draft players in 2021 and they’re not good at ANY level in 2025 that’s a result. Same with 22 23.

we’ve been over this but junior results can be indicative of future success. And if no prospects are even having junior success then that is a result to be evaluated

That’s how you make dumb decisions

We took nordberg and Elliasson?
You're right we did take 2 left shooting defensemen that same draft.

I think I was overreacting about Yakemchuk. The WHL is a lower scoring league compared to the OHL. Plus Yakemchuks showing in the pre-season was great.

Andonovski, Ostapchuk, Yakemchuk, Halliday and others are good at their levels. But that doesn't mean they'll necessarily be good NHL players. Again, you can't see anything right now.
