2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

Do you understand what the question was about?
Yes, do you?

Who is your favorite player on the Sens this year?

Mine is Ridley Greig.

Neil would win that award every year.

It doesn't mean who is the best player, it means who is your favorite player

Are we going to pretend that Keets Fawcett was voted their best player last year?

Are we going to pretend that Blake Hewerd was voted the best player in 2023? He was legitimately cut from the WHL right after winning this

You absolutely do not understand the question and are talking complete nonsense. Are you so uncomfortable that Hitmen fans named Yakemuchuk their favorite player? But that's your problem

They did name him their favorite player, absolutely. I have never denied that, I mean, I am the one who posted it

It's not my problem, it's a you problem. You're the one who is saying it means they voted on the best player....you must be able to read back your posts and say "oh, yeah I was wrong". If not, that's worrisome

Fan Favorite 2024- Keets Fawcett - Forward
65gp 19g 26a 45p - Undrafted to WHL, made team as a walk on.

Fan Favorite 2023 - Blake Hewerd - Defense
41gp 2g 10a - Was literally cut from the WHL as an overager the next season

Fan Favorite 2022 - Cael Zimmerman - Forward
65gp 14g 16a 30p - Playing Senior AAA Hockey now

Were these guys voted as the best players too?

that is, they voted for their favorite, but worst player. well, according to you?

No, I'm saying they voted for their favorite player. Which was Yakemchuk. Favorite does not mean best, all you have to do is look at literally every other player thats won the award to see that. Extremely, EXTREMELY obvious. The fact that it's escaping you is wild.

Who is your favorite NHL team?

favorite means the best for you. if there is a split personality, then these are two different people.

You cannot call an elite skater and a guy who is a bad skater similar players. That COMPLETELY changes each of their games

You will never find 2 players who are exactly the same, Chychrun is a good/above average skater but he's not elite. They still have many similarities in their game. Maybe Yakemchuk won't be able to reach Chychrun's level if he doesn't improve his skating but that's another point as to why Chychrun was not a disappointing hopeful development case scenario that deserved to be flamed out.

You posted a bunch of players that are still question marks 4 years post draft.

It's still early, all these guys started the season only 3 years after being drafted, not a lot of mid first round picks will have significant impact in their D+4

I'd say that all of Sillinger, Coronato and Bolduc are starting to have a nice impact.

Lucius has been dealing with injuries, Cossa and Wallstedt are goalies so it's normal if they're not making an impact now. Lysell is a question mark but will probably start playing in the NHL next season, Rosen hasn't started to play in the NHL regularly but has figured out the AHL and is a pretty good prospect. Othmann will be a NHL player, we just don't know how good, Svechkov should be an excellent player... and that's only for the available guys nearby the 10th OA spot on Bob's list. Each one of them would have been a much better selection, regardless on how they do in the future, at least they all had a chance to be something. Tyler Boucher had a chance to be Curtis Lazar and it didn't materialize

Buium Dickinson and Parekh are already starting to erase some of their questions marks

Sure, never really argued that but there's a difference between Lee and Kopitar or Boucher and Coronato vs Yakemchuk and these guys. He'd need to bust in a spectacular fashion for the comparison to reach that level.

I wish we selected Dickinson

We’re really all just hoping that he’s pulling a Getzlaf at this point. Very ironic due to all the arguments about “character”, but that’s ok. I’ll be glad to eat crow.

I don't buy the not trying/sulking explanation. Maybe there were some nights during the season where that was true, but the way he's playing so far in the playoffs is the same conservative style of game as he played all year. To me, it's pretty clear that the coaches want him to play this way. It's consistent with how the entire team plays.

I refuse to believe he’s mailing it in. I can’t imagine a guy like Yak not giving it his all. He plays in a way that can portray that, lacksidasical, but I don’t think we have an issue with his attitude.

But, therein lies a problem, for me, as a major part of his value was as an offensive dynamo with a cannon. He hasn’t looked that part since before Christmas. Does putting in an effort to play a team system eliminate his freewheeling success that gave him a lot of value last year, because one thing that’s for sure is he’s not going to be wheeling and stickhandling through 3 guys at the NHL level.

Is he going to be an offensive guy? Is he going to be a physical guy? I think he’s as good a bet to be a 30 point guy who plays mean as you can get, but, what else?

I don’t know what he is at the next level. He’s got the size and meanness to impose himself, but I don’t know where else he can/will excel at the NHL level. The skating and decision making worries me greatly at the next level.

Calgary added a full line of top WHL players, including 2 top D in the league. He’s got a ton more help than last year, and Calgary are winning. Hard to complain as a Hitmen fan, though as a Sen fan Yak has done very little in the past 3 months, and is in the midst of a pretty rough streak offensively with 2g 6a in his last 23 games.

I’ve been wrong way more than enough to know that my thoughts and opinions mean little, but that’s how I’m looking at things and and trying to realistically, in my own thoughts and evaluations, map out an expectation of the pro game

Yak named to the Eastern Conference’s 2nd team allstar

4 Hitmen, and Mynio wasn’t practical after plying half the season in each conference. They really went all on this year.

Yak was on 1st Central Team AllStar’s in a different format last year

Was Yakemchuk a force of nature last night, like buium, Parekh and Dickinson?

I watched most of the game. He did his job and the team won. It's nice to see him finish +2 with an assist, but those results were not the products of offence he generated.

I see a player who's been asked to play within a conservative team structure and is doing just that. He had a few opportunistic offensive flashes, but he's not taking risks the way he did last year.

Yeah had to rewind the game about 30 seconds from the goal to see where the assist came from.

He was steady last night, never jumped out at you in good or bad ways.
