2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

If we picked Yak 12th overall I wouldn't care as much, but passing on guys who are having way better D+1 seasons right now ain't looking good.

The problem is Yakemchuk just feels like the worst of both worlds, not as good offensively as Parekh/Buium, not as good defensively as Dickinson/Silayev(and Dickinson has also been better offensively this season too).

He’s not really better definitively than any of them. And they alll look better offensively than him other than Silayev

This might go down as one of the worst picks ever just of how many players in the same position we passed on that went right after

Tyler Boucher? Brian Lee?

Of course you can't, but just like with Boucher you can make educated opinions based on what is happening with guys based on observations from a year+ worth of games

I can't believe how fast I knew that Boucher was going to be a bust. For starters, putting that kind of pressure on a kid by selecting him as high when it's far from his talent level tier. What a stupid pick that was.

IIRC I had Jakob Chychrun as a desired developmental target for Yakemchuk and that opinion got lambasted by some (as usual) and now I bet that most would be very happy if Yakemchuk ends up as a Chychrun.

I guess the “character issues with Parekh” argument dissapeared after that theory about Yakemchuk not caring about junior hockey came out.

The two players had completely different reactions after getting left off the WJC team.

I don’t think people were upset that you compared them lol. They’re just not very similar.

Also you said this right after last season and no one was happy with chychrun. I would not be happy if we get last years version of chychrun from Yakemchuk. Of course he looks to be trending worse

Yak will bring 2 things to this team they are desperately needed: physicality and a PP shooting weapon. If he can play average D, it will make the team better for sure.

I'll cry about the should've/could've picks 5 years from now if they're all clearly better NHL players, but this isn't another Boucher. When I heard that name picked I didn't go, "WHAT?!", I said "Who?"

Calgary-Saskatoon is like watching Ottawa vs Belleville.

Saskatoon’s goalie is looking good, everyone else looks like mediocre CHL players. They have one gigantic fella up front that has shown a bit of potential
