2023-24 Senators Prospect Watch

Well, I guess we know now who the next defencemen this fan base has decided will be the next whipping boy, now that Hamonic will be leaving soon & the poor guy hasn't played a game yet.

Yak should have a big playoffs, he should be able to turn it up a notch in a physical series.

He’s a huge physical kid, that’s going to be big in playoff series’

Hypothetically, if Yak outscores Parekh and Dickinson in the playoffs (Both raw and per game numbers), would you consider his D+1 fine rather than disappointing?

I am not upset at his scoring, I wish he scored more points obviously, but that’s not what scares me with him. I wasn't very high on him last year, and have never really had high asperations for his offense at the next level, so that definitely plays a role, I wasn't expecting much more than close to a PPG. His shot is going to be dangerous in the league. He slowed down bigtime once guys showed up for sure, which is unfortunate, but his shot and skill in the offensive zone remains.

It’s his skating, and lack of development defensively that scares me, coupled with my already low thought on his offense at the next level..

A good playoffs would be a very nice end to an otherwise disappointing season, relative to expectations.

Ostapchuk did that a few years ago, though he was an 18 year old who wasn’t known for his offense and was a great skater and great defensively.

I wouldn’t be looking for that kind of offensive output, nor a lack of offense from those two guys who are much better offensively at this point in time. I’d just look for him to be mean, make life shitty for opposing teams forwards, bare down defensively and chip in with ~ a point per game

He was very strong on the PP, but having 57% of your points, 2nd highest among the top 50 scoring D in the league, is't a great indicator of high offensive prowress at even strength. The fact he's proving good at that is a big plus, that's where a lot of his value will come in the NHL, but I also think his offense at even stregth is going to be lacking a bit

His shot is going to be a great tool for a PP2, possibly a PP1, in the NHL, but his driving to the net and stick handling around guys in the offensive zone is, without a doubt, not going to translate in the NHL

Yeah let's hope he's just mentally checked out and is hot and hungry and works with pro coaches on his defensive game.

Sens had blinders on for a certain position, which was a Right Shot D. Never a smart move to take position as the forefront at the top of the draft, it rarely works out. If you don’t think his size and handedness was was a major, likely the largest, factor in the selection I have a bridge to sell you.

I really, REALLY hope that the amateur scouting is addressed this off-season. We can’t have the exact same staff that’s been here forever calling the shots.

We brought in DiMiao on the Pro side and he’s made a ridiculously massive difference in the span of 9 months, we need to bring in someone to lead the scouting staff, we just played musical chairs with the same old guys we have had for the past 15+ years.

All the talk about Parekh and Dickinson remember we also passed on buium

This might go down as one of the worst picks ever just of how many players in the same position we passed on that went right after
Buium was probably the best of the bunch wrt 2 way Dmen. He at least kept up his play this year. His team was not as good
Size, Mean, Pims ... you had to check those boxes. Sens picked Yakemchuk and Eliasson as their top 2 picks.
Dave Poulin watched some highlight reels and called Yakemchuk an elite skater. Eliasson is probably a better skater. Maybe he meant him.
