The Canucks pose an interesting challenge. Over the weekend, the Canucks upped their interest in Guentzel, whom they tried to acquire earlier in the year. At the same time, also over the weekend, the player they acquired instead of him, Elias Lindholm, was being discussed with the Boston Bruins. As Chris Johnston revealed yesterday, the possibility of shipping Lindholm to Boston still exists.

What I was told late last night and earlier this morning was the likelihood of a formal three-way trade between the Canucks, Bruins and Penguins is slim. Possible, but slim. If the Canucks acquire Guentzel and move Lindholm out, it would be in separate moves. The Bruins wanted Lindholm locked into a contract extension when they tried to acquire him from Calgary before the Flames dealt him to Vancouver. I am curious if that desire remains. Lindholm was looking for around $9 million per year prior to the season.

Boston has also been evaluating the market on winger Jake DeBrusk, who is in the final year of his deal and has a $4 million salary cap hit. If the Bruins land Lindholm without any retention from any club, someone off the roster will have to leave and DeBrusk is a candidate.

  • The Arizona Coyotes are getting calls some players with some term on their deals, like forwards Alex Kerfoot, Nick Bjugstad and Lawson Crouse.
Hopefully Lindholm and his agent both understand that his performance this season killed any chance of him getting 9mil, it's just not a reasonable ask for a guy on pace for under 50 points right now. I'd still give him 8mil if I was the bruins, but I think even like 8.5mil is pushing it for him.

You can quote me on this. Save the post too, Bruins would get shelled against that team. (If they play)
Bruins went all in last year. The players played hard all year. Bad result. Players not trying to break records. They will be ready this year. They will be a tough out. Might loose but it will be in 6-7 tough games. I totally agree about FLA. Tough team

Great move for Fla now if I was Don I would try to move all my Fa instead of losing them for nothing. I still not moving the 2025 1st or Lysell or Lorie

I wouldn’t give up assets for older players. Go all in and overpay for a good #1 C. That is the #1 need by far.

The more I watch this team, the more I think they should just stand pat. They don't have much draft capital anyway. But don't trade Ullmark and JDB. Just see how you can do in the POs. They might be able to beat TOR but I dont see them getting past FLA, NYR, CAR or TB.

Then in the offseason, let JDB, Gryz, Forbert walk, re-sign Swayman and see what you can get for Ullmark.

It would be nice to see a round of Bruins playoff hockey.

Realistically, however, this is a transitional season, and they aren't going anywhere.

To me, keeping the inconsistent beyond belief DeBrusk for a brief playoff run, or extending him thereafter, is no longer sensible, if it ever was. Jake should be traded for the best deal available. He is not part of the solution in Boston.

Arguably, Ullmark's value will never be higher than it is now. Given how they operate, it is unlikely the Bruins will tie up $11-$12 million on two goaltenders.

Swayman is significantly younger, already playing at an elite level with room to grow, and could potentially be a franchise cornerstone for a decade plus. Bussi is waiting in the wings as his backup.

I would trade Linus and, again, bring back the best return possible, whether it helps this season or not.

Neither Ullmark nor Swayman have proven they can handle the workload of a true number one goaltender, nor have they proven themselves in the playoffs. The former presents greater question marks than the latter in this regard.

The tandem business merely clouds the issue and delays the inevitable.

All things considered, it's "time to rip the band-aid off," as Conor Ryan has put it. Both in terms of finding out what they actually have in Swayman, and in shoring up their draft replenishment, prospect pool, and perhaps their current roster.

Lastly, Lohrei and Poitras should be off the table. Boston finally develops two promising talents who have shown they belong in the NHL and can contribute going forward, and the Bruins turn around and deal them away? For what, exactly? A temporary fix to plug multiple leaks in a bridge year, robbing Peter to pay Paul?

The Bruins would be best served by protecting and nurturing two intriguing players who could become important elements of the team's nucleus for years to come.

I'm fine dealing any other prospects, including Lysell, Merkulov and, unfortunately, Beecher. NOT the 2025 first round selection.

It's all about the future, ladies and germs.

And as Bowie observed, "The future belongs to those who hear it coming."

Seems like it but these days it’s really not. And it will seem more like a bargain over the length of the deal. You put him with Pasta and it would be ridiculous.
Not saying I wouldn’t do it but his numbers don’t look great last 2 years. Might be his teammates are bad. Putting him with pasta would be a good fit
