Wednesday Prospect Recap

Josh Filmon was a -4 with 4 shots on goal in the Broncos 5 to 2 loss. The Warriors now lead the series 3 games to 1.

Cam Squires earned 2nd Star of the Game honors in the Eagles 8 to 5 win to sweep the series against Chicoutimi. He had 2 even strength goals, 1 primary powerplay assist & 2 secondary even strength assists. He was a +5 with 4 shots on goal as well. He has been on fire these playoffs !

Moose Jaw had a slightly better regular season record but Swift Current won its division so they got slotted higher. Two cousins going head to head with Denton Mateychuk (Moose Jaw) and Owen Pickering (Swift Current).

On paper Moose Jaw has some more name brand talent and they picked up Matt Savoie in a mid-season trade.

Their Captain Denton Mateychuk is a Columbus 12th overall pick Defensman from 2022. Brayden Yager was the Penguins 14th overall pick in 2023. Looks like Seattle got a flat-out steal with their 2022 2nd round pick Jagger Firkus , the kid put up 126 points in 63 games this year. Plenty of high end talent on this team.

Friday Prospect Recap

Josh Filmon had 1 even strength goal , was a -1 with 5 shots & 2 PIM in the Broncos 4 to 2 loss to the Warriors. The Warriors have won the series 4 games to 1. It looks like Josh Filmon's WHL/Junior career has come to an end as he should be a lock to be playing in Utica next season.

I keep forgetting we have Mikael Diotte in the system. His stats for the QMJHL Playoffs this season so far in 10 games played are 2 goals, 5 assists, 4 PIM, 25 shots on goal & he is a +6. His team (Drummondville Voltigeurs) are in the Conference Finals against the Victoriaville Tigers, the series begins the 26th. Cam Squires & the Eagles begin their series against Baie-Comeau Drakkar on the 25th.

Cam Squires was a -3 with 1 shot on goal , was 1 for 1 in faceoffs & had 5 PIM (a fighting a major with automatic ejection in the QMJHL). The Eagles lost the game 8 to 2 and are trailing the series 3 games to 1.

Mikaël Diotte was a a +/- 0 with 4 shots on goal & 2 PIM in the Voltigeurs 3 to 2 win. They lead the series 3 games to 0.

Mikaël Diotte was a -2 with 3 shots on goal & 4 hits in the Voltigeurs 3 to 2 overtime loss. The series is 3 games to 1 in favor of the Voltigeurs.

Thursday Night Prospect Recap

Cam Squires had 1 primary powerplay assist (a one timer in the hashmarks that deflected off of his teammate in front of the goal) , was a +/- 0 with 4 shots , 2 PIM , 3 hits & went 3 for 5 in faceoffs. Unfortunately the Eagles lost 2 to 1 to the Drakkar in overtime and have been eliminated in 5 games.

Mikaël Diotte and the Voltigeurs are advancing to the QMJHL Finals. The Voltigeurs won a wild one to close to the series out 4 games to 1 over the Tigres. The Voltigeurs tied the game to 2 with about 50 seconds left in the 3rd period and won the game roughly 10 seconds in to overtime. Diotte had 2 shots on goal , was a +/- 0 & had 3 hits.

He has 9 points in 15 playoff games and is a +7. Not eye popping numbers but that's solid production for an undrafted player. It would be nice to see him win the QMJHL and get a chance at the Memorial Cup to close out his junior career.
