I see some hope that he turns into an okay depth player but I’m not sure what differentiates him from Pitre and other lesser prospects we have

He kind of reminds me of Tschigerl honestly but hopefully not
Pitre is a better prospect. Tschigerl never took another step after being drafted though. Hvidston has a longer runway, a bigger frame, and has made steps each year since being drafted.

He's still a longshot, but it's fun to have later drafted kids make progress.

I love Hvid. Kimd of slumping points wise this year but he made a huge leap last year in points increase. He also debuted for the Gulls and became their youngest goal scorer IIRC.

He has a great frame, is fast, super young, plays a 2-way game, and can even fight. Obviously years away but there is something to work with especially for a 5th round pick. This year feels like kind of slumping but I have not watched him mutch

I’m not sure what the obsession with Hvidston is here - I don’t see much potential there really

When a fifth rounder performs like your late first round pick and early second round pick, then that perks some eyes. Also, when that fifth rounder is only a couple months older than the 2nd round pick, then that also perks some eyes. The bonus here is the fifth round pick was seen as a shutdown LW that often took faceoffs, but he's been playing center for the past two seasons.

  • 2022, Rd 1, 22nd OA: C Gaucher ... 6'3 and 207 lbs
  • 2022, Rd 5, 139th OA: LW Hvidston ... 6'2 and 185 lbs
  • 2023, Rd 2, 33rd OA: LW Myatovic ... 6'3 and 187 lbs

Of course, the negative side is if you don't think that Gaucher and Myatovic have much potential, then Hvidston would also fit into that same category. Silver lining to that is a fifth rounder failing isn't anything new, but a late first and early second prospects failing looks far worse.

The oddest thing from the three tables above is that Hvidston's first year in the WHL was his draft year. Considering that Hvidston is only two months older than Myatovic, then we got Hvidston at a steal! Both Hvidston and Myatovic had a hot start until injuries hit both early in the season; Hvidston had a 1.57 ppg rate and Myatovic put up a 1.25 ppg rate. I think both youths need time filling in their frames to help reduce being injured.

Do look at Hvidston's goal scoring production/game for each year. It just keeps rising year after year. It doesn't plateau like Gaucher nor does it have a crazy spike between two low producing seasons.

Hvidston's FO% had a significant jump this year. While Hvidston's role might be LW in the future, it is nice to know he can win FO's if called upon at ES or be very useful on the PK.

As for Hvidston's scoring, we can see he increased is shot volume for the past two seasons and it look like it translated to his improved scoring production.

===============

Verbeek said he wants lots of darts and hopes to find some talent that rise. The more talent that does rise, then the Ducks have more ammo either at the NHL roster or for trade capital. Plus, we're gonna need cheap fillers with all the top-6 forwards and top-end D-men we've amassed already in the future.

Terry turned into a top 30 drafted prospect in the league and was a star at the WJC in his D+2.

Weird comparison at this point
Hvidston obviously didnt have the same trajectory in his D+2, but going into his D+2 they were pretty similar. He even started his D+2 super hot and injuries and role played a big part in his production this year.

I didn't realize Galimov was playing in the playoffs.

Clara is looking like a great find by the Ducks' scouting staff. Yet, goalies are a fickle bunch and we can let Clara have a longer run to see if this year's play is consistent for the next few seasons.

Update on our CHL prospects who made the playoffs:

ELIMINATED
Coulson Pitre - Flint got swept and he did not play in the final game, so that may be why we haven't seen him sign an ATO
Carey Terrance - Eliminated last night, could see him sign an ATO this week
Konnor Smith - Eliminated, signed an ATO with the Gulls, and played in a couple of games last week

STILL PLAYING
Rodwin Dionicio - Won his first round, starts second round against the Soo on Thursday
Noah Warren - Won his first round, starts second round against Rouyn-Noranda on Friday
Egor Sidorov - Won his first round, starts second round against Red Deer on Friday
Connor Hvidston - Won his first round, starts second round against Moose Jaw on Friday
Vojtech Port - Won his first round, starts second round against Swift Current on Friday

Buteyets is a dark horse in our prospect pool imo, I think he may open some eyes once he comes to NA.
