Can't say i've seen much of him but it's exciting having a huge goalie with this kind of success so early.

Just throwing this out there, Hvidston, King, and Sundsvik all go back into the draft if they are not signed by Jun 1st.

Have to assume Hvidston gets signed even after a disappointing year this year. He seems like the perfect "role player" forward PV is trying to grow a pipeline of.

I don't know what you mean by disappointment? Hvidston had a great start until he got injured, a 1.57 ppg rate! He's been injured a couple more times this season. And then once he got hot, the team traded for Conor Geekie to be it's 1C when Hvidston was its 1C.

Although the pts/game isn't a huge jump, his goal scoring has.

What's great about this chart is he has improve his ES goal scoring significantly.

When we drafted Hvidston in the 5th round of the 2022 draft, he was a shutdown LW. Now, he's been playing center and improved his FO% greatly this year.

Hvidston could eventually be one of those players who upgrade the bottom-6 and on the PK.

Disappointing based on my expectations and how he started.

Not saying he should be written off or anything.

I agree with the disappointment after such a hot start (1.57 ppg). The reason the production dropped was due to injuries. Injuries take people out of their groove and it takes some time to get back into the groove (why does Madonna pop into my head right now?). And when Hvidston finally sees that groove again, the team trades for Conor Geekie. Hvidston gets displaced from the top line to the 2nd line. It feels like a majority of Hvidston's points come from the PP or an empty net goal/assist since Geekie was acquired.

IMO, Hvidston's role change from do everything 1C to shutdown 2C after Geekie was acquired. If Hvid the Kid can score 31 goals for this season, then he'd tie Gaucher's high in the CHL. Not bad for a 5th round pick. And he doesn't turn 20 until Sept!

Not to mention that going from an all around 1C to a shut down 2C shows versatility. If he can be a 2-way, all around 3rd liner, that's a massive win from a 5th rounder. He can go to San Diego next season since he turns 20 in September, right?

As long as the player turns 20 years old before Jan 1st of the next hockey season, then they're eligible for the AHL.

It's definitely a huge win to have drafted a no offense, shutdown LW Hvidston in the fifth round and years later see him a two-way center who can score, PK, and over 50% at the faceoff dot. He's been putting up Gaucher productions for the past two seasons and we drafted Gaucher late in the first round!

Another player who turns 20 years old before Jan 1 is LW Nico Myatovic. I hope he doesn't go to San Diego b/c he lost over half the season being injured. Nico was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2023 draft and Hvidston was drafted in the 2022 draft, just three months difference between them.

The CHL season ends this Sunday. All of our CHL prospects, excluding Myatovic, will be playing in the playoffs. This means that Myatovic can join the Gulls next week. I’m very curious what we do with him next season. He is eligible to play in the AHL full time, but we can also send him back to the WHL for an overage year.

Pairwise Ranking, Mar 17

2024 NCAA PairWise Rankings (Mar 17).png

Current Pairwise Ranking, Mar 23 (College Hockey News)

2024 NCAA PairWise Rankings (Mar 20).png

WMU moved up to #12 as UMass took a big drop. St. Cloud State didn't jump WMU despite winning the play-in series 2-1. WMU getting that win while losing the series did help WMU out in the pairwise ranking. It looks like that WMU might sneak into the NCAA tourney, if based upon the Pairwise Rankings.

Tourneys left. Pairwaise ranking before team.

Atlantic Hockey: 25 American Int vs 21 RIT
- Winner of this game will be an automatic bid. Moves WMU down one in ranking.

ECAC: 40 St. Lawrence vs 13 Cornell.
- If Cornell loses, it keeps WMU above Cornell, but St. Lawrence moves WMU down one.
- If Cornell loses, it moves WMU down one.

Hockey East: 2 BU vs 1 BC
- Winner doesn't matter.

NCHC: 11 Omaha vs 3 Denver
- Winner doesn't matter.

Big-10: 10 Michigan vs 4 Michigan St.
- Winner doesn't matter.

Kukkonen's been out for a long minute. Myatovic, Warren, and Moore have been plagued with long stints. Hvidston, Terrance, and Pitre have been like commuting from the ice to the injury chart most throughout the season.

A multitude of injuries at the NHL, AHL, and non-pro levels feels like an organizational-wide injury memo was sent out and there's some odd unity in that process.

Verbeek to all players and in the Ducks' org or Ducks' own rights...

Flo Hockey is predicting WMU makes the NCAA tourney. The official selection is at 6:30 ET/3:30 PT.

The selection process utilized the PairWise rankings to pick the at-large teams (non-automatic bids) to the tournament for a total of 16 teams. The current PairWise ranking has WMU at 13th overall. Teams below WMU in the PairWise ranking that will be going to the ice are automatic bids due to winning their conference titles in #21 RIT and #32 Michigan Tech (Kukkonen's team, but he's been injured for a while).
