I have only watched about20 minutes of Belleville this year. Is Sebring developing? Is Halliday still soft ?
Sebrango is progressing. Detroit sort of messed up his development a bit by having him in the AHL as a 19 year old in his D+2; he really should have been back in Kitchener. So he's probably a little bit behind where you'd otherwise expect a 23 year old to be.

He has sneaky decent skills, and he's a nailgun type. He's physical, he'll fight anybody, he'll throw himself in front of pucks recklessly. He has elements that the team needs, but what is the path for him making the team? Sanderson and Chabot are locked in and Kleven is basically the same age with many years of team control remaining. But guys like this often find a way to make it.

With Halliday I just don't see much there. He's like a poor man's Logan Brown in nearly every way. He stinks defensively, he doesn't win board battles, and he doesn't produce enough at 5-on-5. He's shown some more willingness to initiate body contact, and to try and use his frame to his advantage but it's clear that this doesn't come naturally to him. He's been a ghost down the stretch with only 2 goals in his last 23 games. Can't see him having enough pace to play C at the NHL level and his skill set doesn't seem like it would transition well to the wing. He needs a big summer.

It's an injury.
When he was sent down by Ottawa, I recall reading a report that said he had some personal issues due to his father's recent death. That was part of the reason he was sent down apparently. Then there was David Bell's comment, which I have not seen nor heard a direct quotation. There is zilch on the Belleville Senator's web site.

He said it here:

Aside from Leevi & maybe Sebrango & Crookshank, I am not currently seeing much in Belleville that would translate to potential regular full time players in Ottawa.

I do like what I have seen from Crookshank in the games he has played.
He is certainly not out of place in Ottawa and I think he could carve out a regular spot in the lineup.

As mentioned above, it looks like Sebrango potentially has what it takes to be a solid bottom pair D.
I see him as the first call-up next season in the event of injury, especially for LHD.

Then there is a number of players like Jenik, Reinhardt, Pilon, Davies, etc. that look to be just decent depth type players.

Still holding out hope for some of these younger players like Donovan, Boucher, Toure, Guenette, Pettersson, Bourgault & Halliday to take it to the next level and push for some games next season.

Leevi Merillainen is a certainty based on his performance so far with the Senators in Ottawa.

He might be the backup goaltender next season due to 2 factors: 1) the level of play he demonstrated in Ottawa this season and in Belleville, and 2) his salary level which is likely to be low as an RFA versus Forsberg who is currently making $2.75M.

I would add Halliday who led Belleville in scoring all yr as a potential NHL player, hopefully we get to see him get a shot in Ott soon. I also think they need more toughness in their lineup for the playoffs & would add Hodgson or MacEwan over Highmore or Crookshank.

Roster Notes:

No further updates to the Top Pick Painters transaction report, with forwards Angus Crookshank and Hayden Hodgson still on recall to Ottawa. Injury-wise, defenceman Max Guenette, forward Zack MacEwen, and goaltender Mads Sogaard all remain out of action. Forward Jake Chiasson is still with the club after being reassigned from Orlando (ECHL) last week. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Belleville defender Donovan Sebrango seems to have found his offensive tough again, registering a goal and an assist with two shots on net in each of his last two games. The Ottawa-born blueliner started the season picking up consistent points and had a three-game point streak through mid-February. He’s on his best stretch since returning from a suspension then injury which kept him out 16 games. Forwards Garrett Pilon (one goal, three assists), Cole Reinhardt (two assists), and Jan Jenik (two assists), all have points in back-to-back games as well, while forward Tristen Robins scored his first goal as a Senator last night in Springfield.

There’s a little bit of local flavour on the Providence roster, with Madoc native Dalton Bancroft signing an entry level contract with Boston earlier this month. The 24-year-old, former Quinte Red Devil and and Trenton Golden Hawks captain, just finished his NCAA career at Cornell University and has scored once in three AHL games with Providence. His father Steve played 546 AHL games, including 106 with the Senators affiliate, when it was still located in Binghamton, New York. In terms of big producers for Providence, second round draft pick in 2022 Matthew Poitras had four points last night (two goals, two assists), along with five shots on net. John Farinacci and Frederic Brunet are both on three-game point streaks as well.

I hope Staios gets some legit 4th line players this summer but I’d like to believe Boucher and Pettersson could be better options than guys like Highmore and Gaudette next year when we need call ups. They seem to at least fit the mold of what you want out of your 4th liners better, but I recognize neither of them really produce much so who knows.

It feels weird to say it would be nice to develop some good 4th liners but it’s been years since we had good ones.

BSens down 1-0 after 1, being outshot 15-3, and have taken 5 of 6 pens in 1st. will start 2nd playing 5 on 3 for a 1 min, and then 5 on 4 for 30 secs.
