  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.

Merilainen's .914 SV% is impressive on it's own, but looks godly in comparison to the other B-Sens goalies:

Subban: .880 SV% through 20 games
Simpson: .880 SV% through 10 games
Sinclair: .875 SV% through 4 games
Sogaard: .858 SV% through 8 games

Makes me think Belleville's team defense is seriously lacking and Merilainen has been bailing them out big-time.

Merilainen

Looks good to me.

The other goalies are also legitimately bad.

Roster Notes:

Belleville rookie forward Stephen Halliday had an exciting week, being recalled to Ottawa briefly to practice with the NHL club, before being returned to the Friendly City in time for tonight’s matchup. Other than that back-and-forth transaction, Head Coach Dave Bell isn’t anticipating any other changes to the lineup, from Sunday. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Forward Tyler Boucher was the only Senator to score last Sunday, ripping home his fifth goal of the season on the power play. The 22-year-old Arizona-born forward was selected 10th overall by the Senators in the 2021 NHL Entry Draft, but has played limited games due to various injuries, but continues to battle back to game shape putting up those five goals, plus three assists over 37 games this season. Defenceman Max Guenette had an assist last Sunday against Cleveland and has eight points (four goals, four assists) over his last nine games played.

Monsters all-time leading scorer Trey Fix-Wolansky added another one to his total last weekend, scoring the game-winning goal (his 21st of the season and 107th of his career), while also pounding a game-high six shots on net. The 25-year-old from Edmonton, Alberta has played all 278 games of his AHL career with Cleveland, along with 26 NHL games in Columbus, and is 11 points away from tying his career high for a season (71) set back in 2022-23.

Roster Notes:

The Senators got two significant additions back on the blue line on Wednesday against Cleveland, with both Donovan Sebrango and Filip Roos returning from their respective injuries. Goaltender Mads Sogaard also returned to practice earlier this week. As of this morning, there have been no transactions announced between Belleville and Ottawa, and no other additions to the team’s injured list which includes forwards Jamieson Rees and Zack MacEwen. You can click here for a full list of up-to-date transactions, with full lineup details ahead of game time via the Belleville Sens social channels (@BellevilleSens).

Who to Watch:

Cole Reinhardt was the only Belleville player to score on Wednesday, tallying for the 13th time this season. The Irricana, Alberta native is two goals away from his career high of 15 in a season and eight assists away from his career high of 23 in a campaign, while also sitting just shy of his career high in points (34), which he set last season. Angus Crookshank plays in his 200th career AHL game today and becomes the fifth player to hit the double-centruy mark for Belleville, including Reinhardt, Egor Sokolov, Max Guenette, and Lassi Thomson. When it comes to facing the Phantoms, both Jan Jenik and Wyatt Bongiovanni scored in Lehigh Valley back in January.

There are no Phantoms carrying significant point streaks into tonight’s game, but there are a couple of notable players on the roster, including defenceman Helge Grans who had a goal and an assist against the Senators earlier this season. The Phantoms roster also includes a couple of familiar faces to local junior hockey fans, like former Kingston Frontenacs standout Zayde Wisdom and former Peterborough Petes star J.R. Avon. Wisdom has 29 points in 59 games with Lehigh Valley this season and had 107 points over three seasons in Kingston between 2018 and 2022, while Avon has collected 16 points in 54 games with the Phantoms this season and had 143 points in 184 games with his hometown Petes, winning an OHL title in 2022-23.
