Couture would have been the perfect veteran support, with the perfect expiring contract. Now, maybe with a healthy Couture the Sharks don't bottom out...but still!
not saying you believe this, but: alternative explanations to "he hates the sharks and is being a baby" (undertone of some other posts 'round here) include:
- he doesn't want to follow as much hockey stuff because he's struggling with mental health
- he doesn't want to follow as much hockey stuff because he's transitioning his IG into a personal account but still loves the sharks organization
- sharks management told him to dissociate his account for some weird legal or business reason
- he wanted to be more involved in the team, but was told no, and he's bitter at current management
...
not singling you out, but it just seems odd the vitriol some have for him (?). Seems like he's going through some tough medical stuff, but that's about all we know. I'm not even really a huge couture fan or anything, just odd that people are frustrated with him without more context
100% agree with this. Even in the unlikely scenario that something happened and Couture is pissed at the Sharks, I'd give the guy some grace. Being an elite postseason performer, then being a first time NHL captain as your team (due to cap mismanagement, aging stars, and wasted assets) collapses, followed by seeing a light at the end of the tunnel only to find, no your role isn't the once great star playing a secondary role, but completely unable to skate? Not to mention as a new father, maybe you can't roughhouse with your kids in a way that he expected he'd be able to do through their teenage years. I would totally understand if he's struggling.
Who's had a sadder end to a pretty impressive career for the Sharks, him or Vlasic? It’s a real bummer way to end his career, I really feel for the guy.
It's definitely Couture. An unexpected career ending injury and not getting to end his playing days on his own terms is shitty.Who's had a sadder end to a pretty impressive career for the Sharks, him or Vlasic?
Someone remind me what is his injury? It's definitely Couture. An unexpected career ending injury and not getting to end his playing days on his own terms is shitty.
Some sort of like constant groin pain inflammation or something of the sort I believe.Someone remind me what is his injury?
osteitis pubis, basically inflammation of the joint between the pubic bonesSome sort of like constant groin pain inflammation or something of the sort I believe.
I would say the odds of him being traded in the offseason are extremely lowMario's done for the year with an LBI I suspect is a fracture in his ankle.
Hopefully it's not the last time we see 38 in a Sharks uniform.
I'm with you that we should want him on the roster / in the locker room next year, and I'm with @Star Platinum that I don't think he moves.Mario's done for the year with an LBI I suspect is a fracture in his ankle.

Our defense is now Vlasic, Liljigren, Thrun, Thompson, Desharnais and Lucas Carlsson.I'm with you that we should want him on the roster / in the locker room next year, and I'm with @Star Platinum that I don't think he moves.
Bummer on the injury. Another reason why we're unlikely to win another game.
I hope they don't start calling up AHL guys now just to fill in the blanks. Let the Cuda guys have something to play for.We really are getting to the point where we need to start asking fans to play.
Is desharnais back? Our defense is now Vlasic, Liljigren, Thrun, Thompson, Desharnais and Lucas Carlsson.
I don’t know about Makar but I definitely have more hope that Pohlkamp will pan out than Cagnoni. Is desharnais back?
Maybe Pohlkamp in denver will lose today, then he can sign tonight, and play tomorrow vs. Edmonton. I really wanna see what he's got. He looked so good in the prospect game, and has been playing tons of minutes for a top program under the best coach in the NCAA. he mgith be ready to make the leap and shock the hockey world. Not comparing to makar or anything, but hes similar sized, with reasonably similar performance in his college career. Loves the physicality, can score goals, eat minutes, leads in +/- with a whopping +31. That's NHL ready type performance.
I wonder what we have there...
Same, though I think both will play 200+ games. If Cagnoni were two inches taller, it'd make a big difference. He's well built, but there's only so much more muscle he can pack on.I don’t know about Makar but I definitely have more hope that Pohlkamp will pan out than Cagnoni.
haha, me too actually. That said, Cagnoni has some very nice skating and vision, and hes almost a year younger. The problem for cagnoni is just size and defensive skill. Size cannot be taught but defensive positioning and skill can be. There are some nice NHL comps in Hutson, Spurgeon, or Krug, so while it's always an uphill battle at 5'9', its not impossible and his trajectory cannot be denied as to do what he has done as a 19/20 year old in the pro level is impressive. its all about coaching with him...I don’t know about Makar but I definitely have more hope that Pohlkamp will pan out than Cagnoni.
I don't even know if it makes much sense to bring him over for 4 games the way our D-men have been dropping like flies. I think at this point we need to just make it past the finish line without losing anyone else.Is desharnais back?

You get one try to name the guy 13th in the entire NHL in 5v5 primary assists/60 this season (>400 minutes). His neighbors in that stat are Robert Thomas and Sasha Barkov. Guess who?
Fine, you win, it's Barclay Goodrow. In all seriousness, is it Eklund? It’s either Will Smith or Luke Kunin.
