Though in 4 years the cap will be much higher and I can see prices going up to the point where that’s sorta fair, if he’s still playing.

But also, not every player needs to be flippable, if he helps the team win for four years, is a mentor and leader, etc. that’s valuable too.
It's not a question of whether or not he's flippable, it's more whether or not he actually wants a shot at winning a cup. I think he'd be good for us, but I don't know what this really does for him.

I guess I wouldn't be surprised if some fans basically never give Ostapchuk a chance because he was the guy who came back for Zetterlund, but that's not really fair to him. I just hope that people realize that in a few years, when this team is hopefully getting good, Zetterlund would (hopefully) place below the top six skill forwards on the Sharks roster...and Ostapchuk hopefully will have improved his overall game to be a useful bottom six piece.

We'll see how he develops, but let's remember he's played these games as a 21-year-old who probably needed more seasoning in the AHL. Instead he's been playing mostly with guys like Noah Gregor and struggling--but there absolutely is room for growth there, so we just have to hope that he can keep going over these next few years. It's just that the comparison to Zetterlund is going to always look unfavorable because he's not a guy who's going to score to that level.

But if he becomes a whipping boy as a 21/22 year old simply because he's not Zetterlund and not yet what we want, that would really suck and feel unfair. (I get not liking the trade, but that doesn't mean holding it against Ostapchuk, you know?)
He's one of us now. Of course I'm rooting for him to be good.

I believe Grier when he says he’s done being a huge seller. I mean we don’t have much left to sell, frankly
We're gonna add a bunch of non-core pieces to fill out the roster next year. What dictates whether we stop being huge sellers is when and if the team ever gets to the point of being in playoff contention. Any team that's sufficiently far out from competing for the wild card will always be selling at the deadline to try and build their team up to compete the following year.

The thing is that I do believe Ekblad's claim that he "took something to help recover from an injury that should have been but wasn't cleared with team physicians", but I refuse to believe that Ekblad didn't know what it was or that the team physicians didn't have any idea about it. Where does that put him morally? Grey for me.

This is great for our prospects at getting him. The Bay Area has a storied tradition of not giving a hoot if a player is on the juice as long as they’re good enough.
No, the Bay doesn't give a hoot if you're juicing because everyone is. If Barry Bonds were the only guy or even one of just a handful of guys who took steroids, I wouldn't support him. But literally everyone was doing it, and I refuse to condemn him for doing the same thing every else did. If you're risking your personal safety but not hurting anyone else, that's your business.

It's naive to think that all these guys making miracle recoveries for the playoffs aren't using something to help them along. Frankly, steroids is better than opiates.
