Word! For some reason I thought Smith was playing center still, and that Wennberg was the 3C. I definitely understand why you wouldn’t want your only real top 9 C’s being teenagers though.

I wouldn’t balk at the price for Kunin, but we don’t have our 2nd or 3rd rounder’s this year due to the absolute heist we pulled on the Oilers for Holloway/Broberg. Plus, he’s a STL kid, so I could see Army being interested in bringing him home.
Yeah, I don't fancy two teenagers as our top-6 centers.

Wow, you really really don't have any 2nd round picks. Toss me a 2026 3rd and 4th and Luke is yours. Grier's price may be higher than that, but what's what feels right to me for Kunin.

Hahaha yeahhh we were throwing our 2nd’s around like candy over the offseason.

Would you guys be interested in Texier in maybe a straight swap? We’re loaded at the wing position, and he hasn’t really gotten as much playing time as we envisioned. I definitely see him being used as a trade chip this week. Maybe there could be something there since Kunin has more use in a fourth line role than Tex does.

Not really interested in projects at this point. Texier is basically the same age as Kunin and isn't an established NHL player.

With DET having 3 scouts at the game last night and not playing Toronto until the final game of the season, me thinks something is up. Sounds like minute eating 4/5 D-Man is their biggest need, so the Ferraro fit seems too easy.

Yzerman sucks at trading, so going ahead and penciling in Ferraro to DET for a 2025 1st rounder. Then we sit and hope that Detroit falls out of the playoff hunt and we have another top 15 pick this year.

Ferraro and Denvers 2026 2nd for MBN

The more I think about it the more I want to keep Ferraro and move Walman instead. Walman’s decision making is just baffling. If someone offers around what we were looking for for Ferraro I’d say move Walman and roll with:

Mukhammadullin-Ferraro
Vlasic-Liljegren
Schuldt-Thompson

I’d also like to try to flip Bordeleau for Jones and Thrun for Reichel. I don’t really think either of the other teams would do it but this is the sharks boards so I’ll only get kind of roasted for it!

I’d like to keep Walman for the puck moving. He’s seemingly lost all confidence since the injury and forces plays etc, but he was quite good before then and I’d like to see if he can find it again. Especially if at some point we can find someone that pushes him down to the 2nd pairing.

I like Ferraro more than most here but if he can bring back a 1st I take it and run.

Teams are not looking for a Walman type midseason to make playoff runs. Softer D-Men without playoff history don't command premium returns this time of year. Teams are going to want to see Walman produce offense for another year before offering a package that makes sense to move him.

Ferraro value is probably as high as it will be right now. He's playing well and there are not a ton of surefire sellers out there with the Eastern Conference having 6 teams out of the playoff hunt within 5 points of the final WC spot and the West having 3 within 2 points of the final WC spot.

Beggars can't be choosers -- despite Walman's recent run of poor form, we still need him to claw our way out of the dungeon. I think we have to keep him for now.

I think about it a bit like climbing a mountain of sand. We're constantly fighting gravity and the lack of purchase on our attempt to become a better team. Every guy you trade who is A Real NHL Roster Guy like Walman, is a guy you have to replace immediately or else you are banking on some prospect stepping way TF up. If you trade that guy for futures, then you're just slipping back down. We have enough futures for now -- don't trade him unless the piece coming back is a roster piece OR it's next season and he's heading for UFA.

Same for Ferraro. Keep them both, and try to add 2 roster RD's (ideally one top 4 or even top pair) in the offseason. MAYBE move Walman/Ferraro back the other way for said RD, if we really believe in a 5/6/7/8 that includes Vlasic/Thrun/Cagnoni/Dickinson/ ojala Schaefer next year. I'm not sure I buy it especially given inevitable injuries, and I really think Grier and co should be trying to make a big step forward next year to 5-10th worst.
