Smith is being hurt by Celebrini being on the ice for 19 minutes of every game also. I firmly believe if he was breaking in alone, then smith would get the usual rookie treatment of everything is fine he is good for a 19 year old rookie. But everyone is comparing his play to the 18 rookie that is doing extremely better then all draft experts expected him to do.
Smith is also being hurt by everyone hyper focusing on him. Every time he's on the ice, fans' eyes are glued to him. Every single tiny miscue he makes is carefully documented and stored away.

Sorry to interrupt with a total subject change, but what do you guys feel about acquiring Ristolainen from Flyers if there is fair deal? Physical RD, 2 years left after this year with 5.10mil. Ends same time as Celebrini/Smith ELC's. Get him here to eat minutes and take Ceci spot.

Is it totally a bad idea? Is there any need for him?
If you are looking to make your team worse then he is a great target, he's legitimately terrible

NoNoNoNo

Risto is baaad. I mean real bad. Rutta is better than Risto. Unless the Flyers are giving us one of those 1st round picks to take him, no

Okay, got it! Thanks for the feedback, I need to do a better job with the guys I present as trade targets haha. I just want another veteran RD for next year and I'm having hard time believing they could get one at the free agency. If there is some free agency luck, I would go for Pionk.

It's gonna be great in 2 years or so when Smith comes into training camp with a man's body and everything gets easier. Can't rush nature (Sakic is a great example).
Joe Sakic scored 62 points in 70 games for a 27 win Nordiques team in his D+2 season.

Yea, I think the summer is going to be game changing for Smith. Macklin is special but he was raised by people in the know. Most people need to grow into it

Sakic was instructed to bulk up before a season and played poorly becuase he was too big. I forget the details of the story but it's something like that.

I know I’ve kind of gone on and on about the lines with Wario, but this fan base has been through the blender treatment before and it doesn’t bring up good memories—and those teams had core players who had actually gotten some significant stability in playing with one another in previous junctures. The line blender doesn’t really seem motivated by much except capricious whim; I just don’t understand the aversion to playing Smith back with Granlund post-injury when they both were playing much better the last times they played together.

I’d love it if when some lines work we actually just like, stick with them for more than a couple of games. Let some chemistry develop.

Lots of "rumors" and tradebaiting towards Granlund -> Dallas, full freight. I'm mixed. BUT, i wonder if Ceci and Granlud could be targets of theirs, sweetening our pot
If Dallas wants to give us their first unprotected, they can have him today. Otherwise, they can wait until March.

Lol at goodrow providing something defensively that he deserves to be above smith. He brings nothing offensively and nothing defensively.

He was the cause of the tying goal last night because he is so clueless with the puck he just decided passing the puck to an oiler at his own blueline was the best choice with 25 seconds left in the game.
somewhat convenient to leave out the fact that was at the end of like a long shift getting globetrottered, after almost 2 entire periods of getting globetrottered. smith wouldn't have even touched the puck.

Smith is also being hurt by everyone hyper focusing on him. Every time he's on the ice, fans' eyes are glued to him. Every single tiny miscue he makes is carefully documented and stored away.
not really, you just can't help notice when he has the puck on his stick and the play is right in front of him and he fails to make the plays in embarrassing ways.

He hasn't earned his way back onto the granlund line since returning.

I think I've come around to assigning a lot of value to granlund as a 2C for the early celebrini development years, then as 3C during our early contending years. I don't think it will be easy to replace what he brings to the table.

High scoring era though. Not saying he's is on par with Sakic regardless but Mario was 1 point shy of 200 and there was FOUR! guys with 150+ points including Sharks legend Bernie Nicholls and nearly ten 50-goal scorers.

Point is I wouldn't use his numbers to compare.

Being on the ice for a long time is no excuse for that weak of a play. But its goodrow the vet so he can't do no wrong and mistakes are always given excuses of why he wasn't able to make the most simple of plays.

"Goodrow sucks!"
"But he's better than anything else we have!"
"No, we should play the kids!"
"But the kids would be worse and that might not be good for their development either!"
"I don't care, anything would be better than this, who cares about winning games!"
"We need to develop a winning culture!"
"No we don't, that will come with better players!"
"Kids become better players if they learn how to play a complete game!"
"If you force young guys to play a defensive game you'll kill their instincts!"
"The NHL isn't juniors, you need old vets to show the kids how to be pros, handle a heavy workload, develop a B game, and be consistent!"
"Not for $3m a year you don't!"
"But we have $25mm of cap space!"
"Good teams manage their cap space no matter what!"
"It's a short contract while our youth are still on their ELCs!"
"But Goodrow SUCKS!"

Vanity of vanities, all is vanity. There is nothing new under the sun. The merry go round continues.
