Man, we shit on Lou but what a run on the Isles have been. I think our best chance at top 3 is the Flyers folding after the break. Also of course TB/WSH went to OT and the Pens got something out of the Ottawa game after being down
They look like a pretty mediocre team to me.

They have an elite goalie though. Must be nice.

That's why they can probably sustain this.

Flyers are overachieving, as they really don't have the guns to keep this up, but Washington are the king of flukes. Just an old, slow, boring, washed up team. I bet their cracked out front office is feeling mighty vindicated right now for not blowing this group of fogies up. Both Oshie and Ovechkin went from being pretty good to wheelchair bound in a year. Oshie really badly.

I'm sure that Frankenstein guy will get a goal against us again, to go along with his 2 other goals this season. 1 of them already being against us.

I like Jacques Martin, he's a funny guy. And he seems like a really good guy.

And he's got a face that looks like it's made for a TV comedy. And I've been saying for 25 years now that I could totally see him as a Sopranos character. And he doesn't really age much. Guy hasn't changed much in many years now.

But bringing him out of the NHL head coaching dead after 12 years? That looked like a move Lou would have made, and I know someone else already said that on here when it first happened.

The Flames brought back Darryl Sutter out of nowhere a few years ago, who had been the head coach (and GM) there years earlier, much like Jacques Martin had been with the Sens years earlier. Even longer ago than Flames Sutter 1.0 happened.

But Sutter wasn't even 4 years removed from his last head coaching job.

Blackwood is getting eaten up so much already by Vancouver (4 goals on 11 shots) that his career numbers against Vancouver might be down to like .905% by the end of the night.

They already mentioned he was a career .934% and 5-1-0 against them, and Lindy cited his record against them last year as his reason for giving him the game in Vancouver early in the year when Vitek was hot, right before he was injured lol.

I could totally see Jacques Martin just barely losing out to Steve Van Zandt on the role of Silvio,

He also could have been Richie Aprile, but he seems too nice for that role. Can you imagine Jacques Martin running a pizzeria owner over and putting him in a wheelchair permanently for not kicking up money to him when he got out of prison? Or punching Janice in the mouth? I can't. I could totally see Janice shooting him dead though.

It was really bad but the nature of 3v3 leads to plays like that. We've looked like last season's Sabres the past few games as the coach belatedly figured out that his changes to the system were coaching ebola. Too bad it took him 30 games to realize it.

Yeah, Zibanejad made an incredible move to get around that Sabres player. Only thing I would've liked to see as a former goalie from UPL is maybe poke check since you're that FAR out, it's all or nothing at that point anyway and Zib isn't looking up when he's making that between the legs. Also not sure what the net coverage is on the best net front presence in the league in Kreider but that's just the scrambling nature of OT

I think them being so good at the loser point will help them squeak in. They're not good on face value but they're actually scoring at a decent clip this year + decent power play which has plagued them in the past. That's all Sorokin needs like you said. It'd be the equivalent if we could ever score with Cory in net of the Devils teams of yesteryear.

In a real league this entire officiating crew gets fined and suspended for unprofessional conduct, but of course this is the NHL we are talking about.

In European hockey leagues, there's press conferences for refs. This league would never do it but it's exactly what they did. Also, I've been on record saying that instigator call is the biggest bullshit in the league. You don't have to penalize for that, it's the heat of the moment to fight for a team lol

@Bleedred Just saw the Isles/Canes highlights, I can't tell if the Horvat goal or Lee goal is worse but Kotchekov is utterly terrible
Goals 3, 4, and 5 were all bad.

The two you mentioned and the knuckling Mike Reilly shot that he stared down from a mile away and it still beat him.

I’ve not reviewed hardly any of the night games yet, other than our game and the Sharks game, because I watched both. I also looked at each of the two goals from the Lightning/Capitals game because it was only a 2 goal game and easy to get to. I already got the two afternoon games earlier.

And the Luukkonen game winner because it was already posted here.

But I looked at those after you posted that. Feels like this is every other game for Kochetkov.

He's a miserable goalie to watch. The Canes need Freddy back asap or this kid is going to flush any chance they have at the playoffs down the toilet. The Reilly one was f***ing atrocious too.

I think he may have overachieved last year too. I had literally over half his goals stoppable last year lol.

I’ve long since thought if the Canes had a big run or won the cup, it would probably have to be with him. At least out of the three goalies. Because Raanta isn’t doing shit and he’s the one who cost them the Rangers series with his play in both games 6 and 7 of that series. And then his joke play in the Islanders series last year kept them hanging around.

And Freddie has seen better days.

But Kochetkov is really nothing that inspires confidence. Probably more than Raanta though, but I’d take the older and washed Freddie over him at this point.

The voice coach would have had a lot of fun with him, trying to purge that French-Canadian accent out of him for the North Jersey accent lol.

😂

What "real league" are you talking about?

This is the same throughout all Professional sports.

In the NBA? You get fined.

In the NFL? You get fined.

In the MLB? You get fined.

Referees (or Umps in MLB's case) are protected way too much from so-called "abuse" (see Criticism) and it's frustrating.
