I think when you are picking later in the 1st and early in the 2nd, you want to identify players in a good program with a chance to take a big role in the next year.

I think both Minten and Cowan fit that bill. Personally, I think Cowan more so than Minten. But they are both in good programs where they will be put in quality development positions.

Minten got some poor reviews late in season from what I recall. Seems like he didn't really show well with Kamloops on their Memorial Cup appearance and it wasn't clear if he ran out of gas or whatever. Seemed like he had a promising start to 2022-23 but really didn't take it to the next level despite all the tire pumping.

Ok. So if you have the names of the GM for any of those links, lets make a deal. I would imagine SMAHT scouting would throw in a pick.

If these lists are anything, why draft? Just auto-assign, while taking notice of team's position preference.
Don't pretend you don't understand how consensus rankings and scouting work.
This is not your first draft.

Consensus from the professionals was that he was not a 1st rounder.
Toronto clearly saw something else there.

Up until a player is actually selected all we have is their ranking going into the draft.
The poster said he was ranked lower than his ultimate draft position, you asked by whom, and I provided answers for you.

How could the 28 th not be packaged for like 40th 75th 100th
Washington, Vancouver and San Jose said no. They didn't understand the trade.

Minten was/is a bad draft pick.

So just random, unverified lists? I had him at 21/22, so in my eyes, quite the steal.

Cowan looks a lot more opportunistic while Robertson is usually working harder but not smarter.
I think closer to a Bunting or an Andrew Shaw. Hard working smaller winger who can play up and down the line-up as needed. Smart and hard-working enough to compliment someone like Matthews/Marner (not one tracked mind like Kapanen). I don't really see Robertson. Robertson was always way more high-risk. If the scoring clicked at the NHL you hit a home run, but if not you got a guy bound for the swiss league.

Can someone explain to me what the BPA is? Is it the player you think is best now, or the player you can bitch and whine about not taking 10 years ago with the benefit of hindsight of knowing who pans out?

Lots of desirable attributes. I think if he was 2" taller more people would love the pick

Cowan is a difficult player to project on draft night, partly because of his size. If he were a little bit taller, I would have him down as a slam-dunk second-rounder who has the outside chance of a late first-round selection given how strong his toolkit is. However, smaller players tend to slip on draft boards, which creates an incredible value opportunity if the right team makes the selection.

There aren’t many knocks to Easton’s game. His size isn’t ideal, but he has grown this year. He supposedly has size 13 feet (we’ve heard both 12.5 and 13) and will have time to physically develop and get stronger. We would guess he’d top out at 6’0” at best, but it’s an educated guess.

Easton is such a tireless worker; the word elite being attached to his competitiveness would not be out of place. There are few players in all of junior hockey — let alone in this draft class — that can apply pressure and force opponents to make mistakes the way Easton is capable of. Part of what makes him so dangerous on the forecheck is that after he overwhelms his opponents, he is a dual threat offensively as evidenced by his 29 goals and 45 assists combined between the regular season and playoffs.

"Cowan is someone who will be extremely valuable in the NHL, especially in the playoffs, due to his intangibles, smarts, and elite-level competitiveness".

He can and will punish opponents on the scoreboard after creating turnovers. His defensive game has developed a lot during his time with the London Knights. His skating improved a lot this year and that helped him as he has already established himself as possibly the most valuable player on the Knights’ penalty kill. London has shown no reservations about putting Cowan on the ice in the final minute of any game whether up a goal or down a goal, including in the playoffs.

Kid has an insane motor, he just never stops. Gets in on the forecheck like crazy and can really prolong zone time and create havoc. Has enough skill to complement top players.

Really drags his team into the battle with infectious energy.

Really good around the net finding pucks, very transferable skill he has.

The trouble with scouting the London Knights is they almost go out of their way to slowly develop prospects. Easton is a rookie due to this, he’s quite inexperienced as a NHL draft pick. Expect a ton more trust, usage, opportunity next year, huge chance for a massive boom in both offense and responsibility for the Knights.

Still a shocking pick. Not sure he has the upside of a 1sr rounder and that’s before mentioning he’s undersized. Really easy kid to root for. For what it’s worth, he’s a great kid and really, really well liked by the community.

Great rundown, I have a soft spot for “insane motors”. Have a feeling we root for this kid.

I hope your right

What will be a good D+1 year?

1.3-1.5 ppg in OHL and making team Canada for U-20 wjc?

Hes a center prospect which is nice

Cowan + Minten hopefully both can be NHL players
I know one thing Dale hunter doesn't give a young player that much playing time if he isn't playing the right way.

Thanks for this!

Is picturing him as sort of like Konecny accurate? Sort of the vibe I'm getting but maybe not as much of a pest?
