Barron is so overlooked, it has no sense. Barron is a 22 years old Petry or Matheson kind of D. Big, mobile, offensively gifted, but needs to improve decision making with the puck, like Petry and Matheson at that age. I don't understand why so many are down on him, unable to project and be patient. Turning 23 in November, obviously he needs to take a step up this year, but he has all the tools.
It's largely because his development stalled a bit last year, we have a lot of shiny new toys, and typically we're a pretty impatient fan base.

I still believe Barron can contribute to the future of the team, but this year is a huge make-or-break season for him in Montreal. I hope he comes to camp ready to prove himself.

Hutson is not a sure thing, even Hughes says it. He will have to prove he can be a complete D. Barron is so overlooked, it has no sense. Barron is a 22 years old Petry or Matheson kind of D. Montreal just might not be the place for him to reach his potential.

Right now there are 6 Dmen that I have ahead of him in terms of not only current but future projectability:

Matheson Guhle
Hutson Reinbacher
Xhekaj Mailloux

Plus there are Engstrom and Bogdan.

Now, if we trade Matheson so Guhle can move back to the left side, that opens up a spot for Barron to compete with Bogdan and Engstrom for. So Barron has the next two years to try to show he can be more Petry and Matheson than Nathan Beaulieu, Mike Reilly, Jake Gardiner, and on and on with young d that showed potential but could never cut it defensively. And he may on get his opportunities in spurts, when there injuries, and after long stretches of sitting in the pressbox. Not the best position to develop in.

Larionov switched captains around every so often last season if I recall correctly. Could be a similar situation this season but looks like the season is starting with more experienced players in the captain roles. And yes, that's Slava Voynov

Guhle is not a right D. He won't play there long term and Hutson is far from a sure thing as a top-4 complet D. As much as we would want him to be, two meaningless games against Detroit mean nothing. The right side of the D next year should be, in no particular order, Barron, Mailloux and Reinbacher. Three big frame and mobile Ds. The left side is still the one where decisions will have to be made. You don't keep Xhekaj only because is can fight, and you don't keep Hutson only because he has very high offensive IQ if cannot defend at a playoffs level. And why dismissing Struble right now? He is very much in this battle on the left side. He can defend which is task #1 one for a D.

Those two games were anything but meaningless for Detroit.

Yeah those two games against Detroit were not meaningless to a desperate Detroit team fighting for their playoff lives.

Xhekaj does far more than fight.

Far more? If he would not be a good fighter nobody would be excited about him. He is a potential Joel Edmundson if he stop fighting that often. I say that because he will be injured every season.

CH prospect Bogdan Konyushkov had his "C" removed at Torpedo and he starts today's match on the 3rd pair. We are talking about a significant reduction in responsibilities.

Would Konyushkov have expressed his desire to eventually play on North American soil?

They made former NHLer Slava Voynov the captain, who is also a RD but expect Konyushkov to be the 2nd pairing RD.

Getting visions of Bogdan's introduction to the Bell Center, performing the anthems for us on violin with a mask and suit on, and then taking off his suit and mask as the fans give him a standing ovation to reveal his Habs jersey.
And then sports shows complaining he should focus on the game instead of playing violin after any mistake he makes.
