Imo no.

However, Bogdan has 1 more year on his contract in the KHL..

Sign him, potentially 1 year in the A and then he can replace Carrier if things workout for him.
I'd be surprised if Bogdan ever surpasses Carrier at the NHL level. But for sure it's worth a try, and if not he's a trade chip.

Same with Struble vis-a-vis Xhekaj, assuming Hutson and Guhle will be 1-2 on the LD side for the long term.

It seems Bogdan, Struble, and Engstrom will be trade chips long term. Reinbacher and Carrier may be long term solutions on the right. Then Matheson and Mailloux can fight for the last RD spot. Or we trade for the missing piece on RD.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Matheson/[D from a trade]
Xhekaj - Carrier/Mailloux/[D from a trade]

It's more you get the cheaper option for the bottom pairing and a better fit as you'll have someone else pushing Carrier down and don't have to give him a raise paying 4 mill, or more for a bottom pairing dman.

That is, of course assuming prospects, trades, or free agency bring in better RHDs than Carrier pushing him to the 3rd pairing.

Always the chance that Bogdan becomes nothing and Carrier remains solid and the Habs are sort of forced to keep him.

Engstrom played effectively on the right side in Sweden so he can potentially be a long-term solution on the right side.
