I'd say top 3 with Beniers and Wright. I'd probably go Beniers and Luke top 2 in really either order with Wright at 3. Seattle's center core is going to be sick
I could definitely see an argument for Hughes in the top 3 overall. He’s definitely a top-3 D prospect though, with Power and Sanderson imo. Man, having arguably two guys in the top-5 D prospects in the league feels good.

lol I probably have Nemec 6 among D behind those 3 and also Jiricek and Edvinsson but year 1 and 6 is crazy

Also worth noting that Luke led the US in ice-time and it wasn’t close, basically 5 minutes more than the 2nd guy. He’s being relied on and trusted out there.

1. Luke Hughes: 22:15
2. Mackie Samoskevich: 17:34
3. Thomas Bordeleau: 17:11

Yeah that’s fair. I have Nemec at 5 with Jiricek at 6. Faber’s in the mix there too for me, but our lists are really similar! Good looks.

Luke Hughes is freakin’ awesome people. Feels pretty incredible to have a top-5 prospect in Hughes. Nemec is pretty close also.

If this is more like what we can expect from him in his sophomore season...watch out. Still a bit too early to get super excited considering the opposition but it was nice to see.

I'm interested to see how he plays against a team that actually has offense (like canada).

It’s not just this game though. He’s been doing this for quite a while. Plenty to be excited about regarding Luke. Simply an elite prospect.

Can’t wait to see what he has in store for us. Of course he hasn’t done anything with us yet, but all the signs point to a great player.

Not really. He was a mess on the defensive side and I don't wanna say brainless but he made too many careless plays for my liking.

This game, he seemed more responsible. Like I said though, he didn't get challenged at all in this game so...yea.

I didn't watch the entire game though, so if he fell apart in the 3rd period defensively, oops. :P

I absolutely adore Jack Hughes game.

Luke will be better.

I don't really think so tbh. I think he'll be better than Quinn though.

Yeah, I see the angle, but I’m not putting too much stock in a 17-18 year old offensive minded D-man’s defensive game. I’ve watched a few Michigan games last year and while he didn’t wow me defensively, I didn’t think he was horrible. If I had to pinpoint an area of improvement in his game, that’d be it though, we can definitely agree on that. He’s surely the best offensive D prospect in the game right now though.

As for tonight, I watched the whole thing and he was solid in his end.

Overall, he absolutely is an elite prospect in my opinion, at the very least a top-3 D-man prospect in the league. Very promising prospect, regardless of this tourney.

And... Luke get awarded Player of the Game for the US

So no Buck Dancer/Devils Son-type gloom and doom posts bitching about Luke’s lack of ice time and role on the U20 team after one game this time?

Wait until he has a bad game! :naughty:

Pretty much lol, mentioned it earlier, but here were the ice-time leaders for the US tonight:

1. Luke Hughes: 22:15
2. Mackie Samoskevich: 17:34
3. Thomas Bordeleau: 17:11

It's not even close. Basically a 5 minute gap.

Love to see Luke rack up some points here, but it's really not a game you can take much away from in terms of evaluation.

You have to look at these things in totality...As long as the trend line continue to go up specific opponents or instances don't really matter all that much...

A lot of people felt his goal scoring at Michigan was a bit fluky...inflated by an unsustainable shooting percentage and he comes out and riffles one home from the blueline on day 1 of the tourney...That was my take away.

Like I said, yes, it is definitely nice to see.

But one game against a team of weaker quality than most of his NCAA opponents shouldn't really change anyone's evaluation.

my takeaway is also that he can be relied on for bigger minutes, which is great considering he hasn't even hit his prime yet. granted, lesser opponent, but still

Exactly. People saying we shouldn’t be taking too much out of these games would be going all doom and gloom if he had a bad game. Regardless of this tournament, Luke is a top tier prospect.

This is what I am going to watching for this season at Michigan...I really hope that he not only takes on more situations but emerges as one of the teams leaders.

I don't think there is any question about that...I don't think there is another prospect I would trade for him that's for sure.

I am really happy momma Hughes saved all the size genes for the last one
