Putting Romano here is pathetic. Don’t care if he hasn’t pitched in a few days. Going to need him this weekend forsure and now might have to pitch 3 or 4 nights straight.
Just admit you don't understand baseball and move on. Christ.

You can't just leave your closer sitting for 10+ days especially when he throws heat as his primary weapon.

He only threw 10 pitches and barely broke a sweat. Totally fine.

I really hope tipping pitches has been the main issue for Berrios this year and those slight mechanical adjustments continue to make a difference.

It seemed like he didn't have any confidence in his fastball the last few starts as he threw it <50% of the time (maybe due to tipping). Last night, over 60%. His curveball wasn't amazing, but sometimes you get away with it and fool hitters when your fastball is on point. In addition to the 9Ks, he didn't give up much hard contact.

Berrios is such a weird pitcher to try and make sense of.

He'll get absolutely assblasted and look like he doesn't belong in the majors and then the next game he comes out and fans 9 with barely any danger.

That's why I don't agree with writing him off. For all of the quality starts he's had there's obviously *something* that still works. It's just a matter of figuring out what exactly it is and how to better utilize it.

Maybe now since they do not need to spend as much time trying to fix Kikuchi, they will have more time to fix Berrios.

Kikuchi can in theory be fixed just be being allowed to throw innings out of the pen. The general consensus with him is it's all mental. Perhaps allowing him to build himself back up by throwing low leverage clean up duty can help with that.

For Berrios the question still remains what the issue is/was. I watched his last start and the Guardians feed was adamant he was tipping his pitches. If that's all it was this whole time then that can be easily fixed. More starts will be needed to tell.

Better now than in a 1 run game against Aaron Judge.
It could have been a different story if threw 20+ pitches last night and then had a four out save tonight before facing Judge on Saturday.

It worked out, though.

Well that is what I mean. Kikuchi is in a spot now where he mostly needs to figure it out himself. He does need to worry about any kind of plan or stringing together 5 or 6 good innings. Just needs to figure out how to pitch one good innings and go from there.

Should make it easier for the coaching as well, which means more time and resources for Berrios.

In theory, if Kikuchi can be decent out of the bullpen that kind of solves two issues.
There is a 0.01% chance of that happening but if he does, it would be excellent. Lefty with velo and owed $10M in 2023 and 2024. If he can be a 1 WAR reliever, that would be excellent for us.

That way we can run back Gausman, Manoah and Berrios. Could QO Stripling and if he accepts, still have a spot to chase a Rodon, Verlander or even de Grom. Outside of Tiedemann, we have no high upside arms ready to contribute in 2023 or 2024, might as well throw money at the rotation also considering we have position player free agents this off-season.

As bad as Kikuchi was, it's admittedly nice to see his squad try to rally around him. A refreshing reminder for as much as we say guys suck ass, they're still human beings with emotions and feelings just like the rest of us

It also makes me wonder just how badly Montoyo's comments about him soured the clubhouse in hindsight. Now that I think of it, it was a really bad look that Montoyo threw Kikuchi under the bus for sucking while Berrios was similarly horrendous at the time and he didn't make a single peep.

You don't need Apple TV or any kind of Apple account to watch the game.

Sources: Springer stubbed his toe getting out of bed this morning. Out 3-4 weeks.

I used to find these comments funny until Dalton Pompey's career came to an end when he walked into a baseball bat. Then I realized that just because an injury description doesn't sound like a big deal doesn't mean it isn't.
