Wahlstrom also lately has a tendency to charge after opponents to blast them through the boards, and he gets goaded into things he doesn’t need to do that land him in the penalty box when he needs to be on the ice.

He’s becoming a hothead.

Then there’s matter of Wahlstrom’s shot selection….
Is there a term for hothead-meathead combo? Hot meat just sounds bad.

If Lambert really believes LaDue deserves a spot over Aho, Hutton and Salo, then so be it. It may not be sexy but I choose to trust the coach.
plus i trust my eyes. i think hutton is garbage, aho is spotty to bad and salo has actually looked more fluid and confident from what i've seen of him in pre season. i've seen all the games except the 1st Flyers contest. i think maybe Salo has the 6th to start out with LaDue as 7th?

Nobody wanted any of our guys??? LOL

According to Friedman, nobody wanted any of anybody's guys!

Teams will try to sneak better guys through the last day and there will be a claim or three. Wouldn't be shocked if by the Isles.

Who fills in for Clutterbuck the 30 games he misses due to injury this season?

The one component that struck me about Salo last season was his poise. Has a CDH feel to his game, with more offense. Lambert highlighted his poise in the post-game. From what I've seen so far, Salo is my choice for the 6. Aho is great in transition with a good shot, and that's about it. Salo brings a much better all-around game.

Truth is, it would be FANTASTIC if Salo truly is the best option.

He's more than old enough and has been playing "pro" hockey since his draft year. Time for that to start translating.

ASIDE:
If Salo ends up being the #3 LHD, Romanov will be the only Dman not drafted and fostered by the Isles.

How many teams in the NHL can claim 5 of 6 regulars as their own?

Who fills in for Clutterbuck the 30 games he misses due to injury this season?

Koivula is getting a long look this fall...

Seriously though, it'd be Johnston, right? Or Martin on the right and Johnston on the left?

And then there's going to be ongoing determination of where Bellows and Wahlstrom fit.

I think a better option than hutton/aho foe a 7th/depth is critical

There were more than enough options on the free market.

POSSIBILITY?:
Ever since we saw Aho re-upped and Hutton got a 3-year deal, and even after Cholowski was signed to a 2-year deal, I've been thinking the idea is simply to wait until the final waivers come out and then Lou will go to work. Aho - and now LaDue - can easily be placed on waivers to replace anyone who is claimed.

We'll find out soon enough.

LaDue actually looks decent out there. Seems aggressive and competent on both ends. Very small sample size I know but so far, not bad.

I didn't watch last night's game all that closely, but did we hear Martin's name called more than once? Of anyone is to lose their roster spot, he should probably be first in line.
He played OK I thought. I noted to myself while watching that at least he hasn't looked like a liability like he was last year. I REALLY like what I've seen of Ross. I saw pre game interview with Lambert and he wants all these guys to be themselves. I love Barry but from what I've seen and heard it seems Lambert has "unshackled" not just Barzal, but all of them.

Perhaps.

He just turned 30, so he is what he is, and hasn't exactly done a whole lot in recent years.

My eye tests last season were that he was more often bad than not.

I'm not seeing him in the picture. This little stay in camp and the test games shouldn't be read into too much.

He was bad last week in New Jersey against the Devils team that WILL start the season in the NHL.

It feels like they really like Soshnikov - he's fast, he shoots hard and he PKs. It also gives Euro guru guy some ammo if he makes the team - like "look what happened to Soshnikov when he came over". If Clutterbuck is unavailable to start the year, it really does allow them to kick the can down the line and maybe we see something like this:

Parise - Barzal - Palmieri
Lee - Nelson - Beau
Bailey - Pageau - Wahlstrom
Soshnikov - Cizikas - Bellows
Martin, Johnston
