Bobby Dalbec looks like he’s been working out and studying first base

Once Casas arrives got to think Dalbec becomes a DH/1B/3B

Very possible but I’ve seen Tiant & even Rich Hill counted out return to pitch for years

Beauty of sports - you just never know but I wouldn’t bet either way

All Dalbec needs is to figure out the strike zone. Still chases the breaking ball, then watches fastballs for strikes. Maybe too much guessing?

Sale's throwing motion and body type working against him.

Agree on both

Sale has 30 M for 4 years so they better hope he figures it out

Btw - seems If you are a real good player now you want $30 M a year

If you have 10 Very good players that’s $300 M in salaries

I was willing to accept why they had to trade Mookie. I'm even willing to accept why they might not reach an agreement with Bogaerts.

But if they don't extend Rafael Devers I'm going to lose my f***ing mind.

If Devers improvement at 3B sticks then there’s no excuse not to pay him 10/300 IMO. If he were still a butcher there you could convince me the money is better spent elsewhere but if he’s even an average glove at 3B you back the Brinks truck up for him

Even if he doesn't improve at 3B, I still back up the Brinks truck and move him to 1B

I think he’d just DH if he gets moved off of 3B. Casas is gonna be ready soon and that kid is a massive target at 1B with soft hands

And then the question becomes whether or not you’d pay Devers $30 mill a year to be a DH. And I know it’s a different era and salaries have inflated a bit but Ortiz never came close to that figure. Generally those $30 mill guys are two way superstars.

Devers looks good early at 3B. If that continues they must pay the man.

True. I dont like paying that much to a DH/"future DH" but they also painted themselves into that corner when they dealt Betts away.

Technically they can, but you cant really let a young bat like Devers walk over money on top of moving Mookie out of town over money. FSG crying poor will go over like a fart in church

Agreed that the optics won’t look good- I do think they would spend that money in a different way though. Probably on a premium OF or something. Juan Soto will be a 26 YO free agent the year after Raffy is a free agent, for instance

All this is moot if he continues to be solid at 3B. In that event he must be paid

I'd rather root for Rafael Devers his entire career than part of the career of a high-priced free agent.

I think it gets done by All Star Break

Devers & Casas at corner and Dalbec spelling both and playing DH seems like a perfect plan

Power personified

A lot of players don’t like negotiating in season, particularly in contract years. They’d just rather focus on the season.

I don’t think the Sox have any interest in extending Eovaldi mid-season anyway. I do think they’ll be competitive in trying to retain him on a 3 year deal. If he has another good season I’d even go $25 mill per for him. Just not for term. With his injury history I have a hard time believing they’ll give him 5 years starting in his age 33 season
