After last night's game, I had to vote for Rosen. Even if I don't have a clue how to pronounce his name.

Rosen is two years younger, has an infinitely higher upside, and I’m not even convinced he’s not the better player right now with two less years of development. He was a difference maker with limited ice time from a dumb coach at WJC. He was a difference maker last night. This sleeping on a guy because of injury and usage last year has to stop. Don’t be on the wrong side of history

What your reservations on Johnson's game?

I see a very smooth skating D who is smart defensively, great with his stick and protecting the zone, and has some untapped offensive upside. I project him as a #3-4 guy - not just a ceiling but where I actually think he'll end up. He impressed me a lot at the 2021 WJCs, and in general most times I've seen him, in my limited viewings.

Like I said I think this poll goes differently if Johnson was signed.

I swear that some people think you can win at the NHL level by icing 18 small, skilled forwards & to hell with everything else.

Projecting a high risk/undeveloped player as being certain of reaching his ultimate ceiling is equally as dumb as not voting for Johnson/Portillo because you are already convinced they sign elsewhere.

Although i at least understand the thought process for doing the latter.

He has a very high offensive skill but gave up a terrible turnover that led to a 3 on 1 in the first.

Please tell me how dumb it is to not vote for a kid that has a relatively high probability of never wearing the Sabre sweater.

Did we all agree? I believe I said I put it at 90% in my opinion that he will. I know others don't agree. There is no consensus.
There was a consensus based on his language and and verbage. Maybe not everyone. That was a poor choice of words.

I did acknowledge that i understand the thought process. Even though it is completely wrong.

All guys listed in this poll have a 100% certainty of being Sabres property at the current time. Whatever else you think is simply a prediction which may or may not come true.

If Johnson were to sign for another club next season - then fine - at thst point we don't include him in future polls beyond that point.

I get that. We are projecting their future though, correct? That's what we're doing here.
Where he signs has no impact on his prowess as a prospect
Well that's debatable but it's not just a prospect poll, it's a Sabres prospect poll.

I just picked Rosén because I think he is more of a higher-end prospect than Johnson regardless of if Johnson signs (I think he does) or not.

Another way I'm kind of thinking about this. If Rosen and Johnson were both tradeable assets, who would have more value.

There's three perspectives I'm trying to meld.
1)overall value as a NHL prospect independent on trifles like what team the player will play on
2)particular value as a Sabres prospect as far as whether they will ever sign a contract, or as mentioned above, bottom-line value at the moment as a trade asset
3)projected value to a particular Sabres roster. Maybe a Nadeau or Novikov will have a value to fill a roster niche, whereas a Lindgren or Weissbach is a redundant cog. Im just spitballing a bit dont get hung up with the specific players.

I'm trying to meld all 3 of these in my voting.

I voted Rosen but want Johnson because the debate about where to put Johnson since he may leave is getting soooo old.
