RESULTS SO FAR:
  1. Owen Power, D (--): 86/103 votes (83.5%). Runner up: Jack Quinn (11 votes).
  2. Jack Quinn, F (+2): 65/78 votes (83.3%). Runner up: Devon Levi (4 votes).

  5. Devon Levi, G (+4): 79/96 votes (82.3%). Runner up: Jiri Kulich (11 votes).
RULES: Each poll will remain open for 2 days. In the case of a tie within the top 10, I'll create a 1-day runoff poll to decide the winner. Ties outside of the top 10 will be left as ties. For each additional poll, I will add the most commented next to add prospect.

ELIGIBILITY: All players whose rights are held by the Buffalo Sabres and who are eligible to win the Calder Trophy for the 2022-23 season are eligible inclusion. That means a prospect is eligible if--
  • He is under age 26 (as of September 15, 2022);
  • He has played no more than 25 games in any single preceding season; and
  • He has not played 6 or more games in each of any two or more preceding seasons.
NEXT TO ADD: Comment the player you want to see added to the next poll. The following players are eligible:
  • Forwards: Alexander Kisakov, Tyson Kozak, Filip Cederqvist, Linus Sjodin, Lukas Rousek, Matej Pekar, Linus Weissbach, Aaron Huglen, Matteo Costantini, Gustav Karlsson, Jake Richard, Joel Berndtsson, Stiven Sardaryan, Viljami Marjala, William von Barnekow, Jakub Konecny, Brett Murray, Vasili Glotov
  • Defensemen: Nikita Novikov, Mats Lindgren, Oskari Laaksonen, Vsemolod Komarov, Albert Lyckasen, Philip Nyberg
  • Goalies: Topias Leinonen

Portillo. Add William von Barnekow-Lofberg.

He should have been in the list from the start.

I'm doing my Sabres prospects ranking based heavily on their potential for playing for and contributing to the Sabres. This will hurt Johnson/Portillo in my voting. To me they are more NHL prospects than Sabres prospects.

I don't fully agree with it - but this is a completely fair approach to have & it's why both of those players will be lower in these rankings than they deserve to be on merit.

Although - you should probably put a similar (but smaller) weighting factor on Levi since it is also possible he can walk directly to UFA.

I get your point with Levi but its basically taking in every available piece of information and what is said by management and you can kind of see how things are trending.

I will bet 500 dollars that Levi signs with us and 250 that Johnson doesn't. Portillo is a coin flip.

Well at this point all three of them are Sabres property:

Johnson must sign next summer at which point he will be 22 yo.

Portillo must sign by summer 2024 at which point he will be 23 yo.

Levi must sign by by summer 2025 at which point he will be 22 yo.

These are the facts. Maybe you are right with what you would bet on but it is still speculation.

People always disagree on what constitutes a prospect, but letting that affect the voting sort of invalidates the poll.

The Sabres really really really wanted to sign a few prospects. All 3 declined. That is reality so that reality absolutely affects how I view those 3 individuals as *Sabres* prospects

If we ranked them as NHL prospects that would be different.

Its not that I'm trying to be difficult and I'd wager cash on Johnsons's future with the Sabres. Since CalPete he is the only prospect I've felt certain wouldn't sign. I was surprised when Vesey didn't sign.

I'm gonna value RyJo as the 64th pick in the 2023 draft, plus a little bit because of the very tiny chance he signs. I think that will make him around 12th in this ranking.

I'm not sure about Portillo. UPL as backup next season and Levi in Rochester will absolutely be a factor. Why should Portillo get Noronen'ed when he can choose his spot. But maybe UPL is gone in a few years. Portillo around 9 I think, but I'm just going one at a time right now.
