Great Britain has a shot at leapfrogging Hungary in the rankings. If the groups were settled today, here's how I think they would look.
Group A: Norway, Belarus, Slovenia, Kazakhstan
Group B: Slovakia, France, Korea, Italy
Group C: Latvia, Denmark, Austria, Hungary
Well, those are stupid groups.
Yes, but these are if nothing changes. I would bet something will change. Is this the qualification groups? No more Slovenia for us please.
Well yeah, many things will change inevitably. Austria needs a lot to change, right now we're in the Group of Death.Great Britain has a shot at leapfrogging Hungary in the rankings.

Behind Slovenia i think UK, Hungary, Italy and Poland is basically same level. I think Japan will join them with all the young players they have in NA very soon. China with KHLers is probaly on Norway level.
I think Belarus is way better than people give them credit for.
Battle for Beijing: Assessing the 8 Other Mid-Major Nations in Looking Ahead to 2022
Sorry for necroposting but it was a pure joy for me to find by chance and re-read the article and the thread now, post- Olympic qualification.
Don't worry I'm not offended haha. Belarus ramped up their junior production to the CHL very quickly. It may have been that there were always quality juniors and that there simply wasn't a connecting agent, but once they were able to establish the pipeline things moved pretty quickly. I'm still not sold on the long term trend but there's no reason for you not to be.Top major:

I have tried to steer you towards the light for years with my Belarus enthusiasm and the day is coming when you will be converted into a believer.I'm still not sold on the long term trend but there's no reason for you not to be.
