See - this is why I'd prioritise RHD if we have any of these guys grouped closely in terms of rankings.

There's already 10 guys pencilled in for 'top 9' roles in the short/medium term (I'm including Asplund plus the 9 above). The majority of these guys are young.

That's also not accounting for a bunch of other guys recently drafted such as Rosen also making the jump.

On RHD there is next to nothing.

I'm not against using the pick on another position & of course I know 'you shouldnt draft for need' - but it had better be someone realistically capable of supplanting one of the guys we currently have.

I want the best RHD possible out of this draft. I also think 2 of the first 4 picks should be RHD.

It's such a blatant organisational need. Short, medium & long term.

No good GM goes into a draft with need at the forefront of draft needs, unless it’s an early stage rebuild and they are looking for centers. Otherwise, you draft off your board. That’s how you get Jack Quinn.

Sabres are currently drafting 7. Assume that draft order holds, and no lottery movement pushes the Sabres down.

Going off tankathon’s win percentage projection, and Bob McKenzie’s list from last month, here’s how the draft could go (I made some adjustment for injuries to Kemell and Jiricek, and Slafkovsky’s current play.

1. Montreal: Wright
2. Arizona: Cooley
3. Seattle: Slafkovsky
4. Philly: Savoie
5. NJ: Kemell
6. Ottawa: Miroshnechenko
7. Buffalo:

Next players on the board:
Yurov
Jiricek
Nemec
Geekie
Lambert

It’d be really hard for me to take Jiricek or Nemec over a big, mobile center line Geekie or an explosive center like Lambert. Especially with a slew of RHD projected to be available when the Sabres pick twice at the end of the round.

If those five are available, I rank them on my board:

Lambert
Geekie
Nemec
Yurov
Jiricek

If that's how it goes I'd happily take either Nemec or Jiricek. Probably Nemec given we already have Dahlin/Power.

Your bias towards centres is well known. We don't need to talk about it again...

Geekie's play is far too inconsistent to take over Nemec or Jiricek, or even Yurov.

Nemec or Jiricek makes too much sense. It would be wise to build a defense around Dahlin, Power, Nemec/Jiricek and adding Jokiharju, Samuelsson, Johnson, Bryson, Fitzgerald, Laaksonen it is reasonable.

But there must be an alternative to take a forward, because it can easily be such a situation when Nemec and Jiricek will out be with our choice

Nemec or Jiricek would be good if we fall in the draft. Would be happy if we rise and take a C like Savoie. Would be really Nice as we trade Eichel. Would much rather have this forward lineup instead of the D above.

Skinner Thompson Tuch
Krebs Cozens Olofsson
Peterka Savoie Quinn
Asplund Girgensons Okposo
