Schenn's Leaf Prospect Rankings. SDA was added with 7 votes.

Here are the rules:

1. Each poll will be open for 24 hours.

2. As we never have a consensus way as to which players are still considered prospects, we'll be using my way of cutting off prospects. The player must be U24 and have less than 50 GP in the NHL. A Prospect MUST be connected to the Leafs, AHL contracts or PTO's don't count.

3. I will start the poll with 10 of the most consensus guys I've seen on the Marlies/Draft boards. I will list the players on the docket (and their most recent season stats) as well as guys that have the ability to be added. Vote on who to be added next or I'll choose myself.

4. When there is a tie, we will do a tie-breaker. The loser of the tie-breaker does not immediately go into the place below (eg: If we tie on prospect #13, the winner is 13 and the loser goes back onto the docket).

5. We will be going to 30 like we did last year.

For this summer too?
Bah.
He’s in the next cluster for me; him and like 5 other guys tracking well, and then still a bunch of upside guys who are tracking just fine. Still love the depth.
Tverberg for me. I like his grease.

Similarly, you could add any of 5 guys with good reason.

Add Douglas, good story.

Abruzzese for me. Tverberg/Moldenhauer are my next two.

Add Douglas. Hildeby/Miettinen/Miller would be my next three adds.

Going to keep voting Kral because I think he’ll end up being a solid bottom pairing guy & stick around in the league for a while.

Abruzzese. Add Hildeby.

I'll be honest, I don't know much about these guys after the next few picks.

SDA isn't known to be great on faceoffs, as a PK player, he's not a good defensive player, he isn't physical, he couldn't score goals even at the junior level. He got a .62PPG in his second ELC year playing a lot in the top-6, he now has one year to make the team before waivers. Douglas scored a .51PPG playing on the 4th line with Rich Clune, he is good at all those intangibles listed above and he's 6'9, with 2 years left on his ELC.

What are people even looking at when making their lists?

Voted Tverberg.

Add Douglas.

I'm torn on Tverberg vs. Abbruzzese.

On one side, Tverberg is and has been well ahead of where Nick was at the same age (Nicks's U20 year was spent with the Chicago Steel, afterwhich we drafted him, Tverberg is already a near point per game NCAA impact player).

On the other Abbruzzese is so-so close to the show, looked great in the Olympics, decent in his end of season trial.

Nice problem to have at 9-10.

Since this poll is nearly done, i will give my take. Toyberg has a higher floor and similar ceiling than abbruzzese. Abbruzzese had a killer d+3, but did it in a weak ecac division on pretty decent harvard teams (he got to play with jack drury in his d+3, and had a variety of linemates like coronato and lafrerriere for his d+5). His d+5, production wise, is very bad. Most of his points are assists. For nick’s game to be effective, he needs space and time. Nick has very good vision and his passing game is the best out of the lesfs prospects. His offensive iq is up there as well. From watching his harvard games, i don’t think his pace or skating allows him to impose his game. He will be good on the 2nd powerplay unit though.

Toyberg hits really hard. He has a good shot and has more detail to his game than abbruzzese. He’s already learning to pk and is just as a threat on the powerplay than abbruzzese. He incorporates stick picks and usually ends his shifts in the offensive zone. He drives better possession than abbruzese and handles adversity a lot better. He’s also a faster skater and seemingly has fixed his skating issues when he has the puck. Toyberg plays the f1 position, which means he’s usually the first person on the forecheck. He can pretty much be used on any forward line as his role would not necessarily be the one where he has to score the most. He just needs to grab the puck and give it to his linemates, which he has shown to do in the ncaa. Abbruzzese needs to be the f2/f3, but the leafs are already loaded with nylander, marner, matthews, tavares, knies, robertson, hirvonen, etc.

Looking at point totals, toyberg’s 32 points in 36ncaa games is more impressive than nick’s 80 points in 62 ushl games. Toyberg’s probably not going to eclipse nick’s d+3 season due to lower quality of teammates and a higher expected defensive responsibility.

The only problem is that i don’t think he meshes well with his teammates in uconn but then again, they’re not exactly blue chip prospects (kondelik, firstov, and before that, schandor). His teammates’ numbers have decreased since toyberg has gotten more minutes (johnny evans and pitbull looking guy).

Toyberg has way more transferable skills for the nhl and he’s the much safer prospect.
