He probably isn't in the cards for us, but Joakim Kemell is astonishing. I've only looked at him and Shane Wright but as of this very moment I think Kemell > Wright. That is definitely subject to change but Kemell is incredible.

Kemell and Lambert have looked better than Wright.

Today, I agree.

Lambert hasn't been good this year, and while Wright hasn't been great either he is still a solid 200 ft center that can play with anyone. So I wouldn't put Lambert over Wright on the season. Kemell for sure.

I would say today everyone looked better than Wright, except for Kent Johnson funny enough.

I want Juraj Slafkovsky in the 2022 draft. He would be better than Marchenko or Chinakhov.
Stylistically he's one of my favorite forwards of 2022 draft class that I have seen glimpses of so far. Still, there might be more reasons for CBJ to not draft him than to take him with any of their 1st round choices. First, he's a W and what Jackets need the most are RDs and Cs. Second thing is the slow speed... do you think he could take huge strides in next few years in terms of improving his skating? Or is that not an issue at all for him in transferring from Euro leagues to NHL?

While watching last night's game, out of all Team USA players I primarily focused on Cooley. Based on what I saw, he could be one of the better 1st round pick options for Jackets. Playmaker type, has a pass-first mentality and is an effective skater. However there is something in his skating that I don't like, it looks like he isn't super agile or able to do sharp turns on his skates, that can be a limiting factor and disadvantage in tight area battles and 1vs1 situations. But he uses the tools he has very smartly. Also would have liked to see him shoot more to know if he's able to beat goalies on clean shots.

Yes, Juraj doesn't have great skating, although it's not that bad for a tall player like him, but he's strong, very good around the boards, he can cover the puck, I like his transition, which he showed at the World Championships in Riga. Whether he will improve his skating, I can't say. As for centers, we have Sillinger, Johnson, I think we need to give them a chance first. RD, we have two picks in the 1th round.

In the 5-15 range I think Frank Nazar looks like a real good player. Good skater and play driver with offensive skill, probably considered to be in the Point/Konecny/Gallagher mold.

Lambert is the best player on the ice for Finland again today.

I think Koivunen is super underrated. He's a big help for Lambert here. But anyways, as far as the draft goes, this tournament should put Lambert back towards the top. His transition skill is top notch. He's got a bit of Barzal to him, just more of a project in the offensive zone.

In the 5-15 range I think Frank Nazar looks like a real good player. Good skater and play driver with offensive skill, probably considered to be in the Point/Konecny/Gallagher mold.

I'll have to admit that I have a hard time keeping info straight on the three smurfs. Cooley, Nazar, Howard. All the same size, same type of player, all coming out of the USNTDP at the same time.

So the Jackets might just end up with a couple high picks this year. Good chance both are top 10, though probably not top 3 or 4.

What are folks' draft lists like? I'm honestly perplexed this year. It is still super early, I don't normally get into the draft until after the Jackets are out of contention. But I've started putting in the hours watching prospects and I don't feel like I'm getting much closer to knowing who to pick this year. My draft order is a mess, I don't have a lot of confidence in it.

Currently:

Wright
Jiricek
Lambert
Geekie

Yurov
Kemell
Savoie

Slafkovsky
Nemec
Cooley

It's a lot of good players but not a lot of great ones. This is not a good draft, in my opinion.

The more you've looked at Kemell the less you're liking him? That's not a rhetorical question, I'm clueless with this crop - I've only watched some Wright and Kemell highlights and a few of the WJC games. Why has Kemell fallen for you and why did others jump him? From the little I gathered Kemell blew me away with his production in a mens league

Kemell didn't look impressive in his two WJC games I watched, and from Liiga watchers I've heard that he has taken a step back last month. It could just be injuries or something, and I'll move him back up if he recovers in the second half. I haven't seen any Liiga games from the last month.

Im thinking the Jackets get one pick around 10 OA, and one just above.

In general I agree, the draft is weaker than last year. I’m higher on Nazar than most, same with Lambert.

Wright
Jiricek

Savoie
Lambert

Nazar
Cooley
Geekie
Yurov
Slafkovsky
Miroshnichenko

How old are those lists? I can't find a date for them, not sure if it is from months ago. Miroshnichenko has fallen out of the top 10 on recent lists I've seen.

I think those are BM's pre-season rankings.

This is a really weird draft. I wouldn’t be surprised to see some trades in the first round if teams have wildly different assessments on players.

It may be that somebody near the top would be willing to trade back to us for our two picks. Or we use our better pick and then trade back.

Interestingly, Arizona and Buffalo both have 3 first round picks and both are likely to have a very high pick and two picks after ours. So we might be on the phone with both of them as draft happens.

This is one of those drafts where the eventual best players might still be available after pick 5, which could be great for us if Jarmo and company can identify them.

Yes. Or the best player might be sitting there at 3 and it might be worth making a call and not risk waiting if we have maybe 8 and 10. I could see a McTavish kind of situation where a player is rated much more highly by at least a few teams (Ducks, Jackets) than the pundits.

McTavish was only low on twitter. Half of the league was drooling for him. He was 4th on Bob's poll (remember Bob's poll is a poll of NHL head scouts and GMs).

Same thing with Edvinsson. Twitter scouts and HF scouts hated him and the pros loved him.

Same. There are so much video material I haven't gone through yet and live games I have completely missed that I'm hesitant to post any sort of tier list of projected top picks yet. But I will do it later with short analyses of players and I'm very interested to see yours and lists of other CBJ fans too.
