I disagree but fair enough. They played him and Dahlin together at times last game. I think that could be the best pairing in the league at some point.
Dahlin has really taken a giant jump this year. He really is starting to round out into what looks like a #1 overall pick. It's amazing how impatient people can get with these kids. The same can be said for Nico Hischier, who has been absolutely dominant of late. So, I get testy when people call Lafreniere a bust. It's too early.

I think the backlash against Power is simply because the more stat-based draft evaluators -- who are also consistently the least accurate in their rankings -- often had Power ranked relatively low. Scouching had him at #7 or #8 I think, and the always-clueless Byron Bader had him at #6. I mean, Bader also had Artyon Marino at #14, 8 spots ahead of #22 Mason McTavish.

Power is going to be awesome. He's smart, great two-ways, fast, skilled and 6'5. His downside is as a 2/3D, his conservative estimate is as a 1/2D, and his upside is a Norris Trophy winner.

I can't see anything bumping Toews-Makar for quite a while
I mean Toews is 28 and it’s not like he’s been some elite defensmen for a very long time. I could see his play starting to drop off in a couple years. Dahlin is young, so skilled, and seems to be getting better and figuring it out in the NHL. I think he’ll be one of the best offensive defensmen in the league especially as the Sabres turn things around and get better. Power has potential to be a really good number 1 dman IMO and since watching him in the league over his first two games I’m starting to think more and more that he could legitimately be a top 5 or even 3 all around dman in the league with his skillset and IQ. Think he could be absolutely dominant and control the play almost every shift at his best. He probably won’t put up huge point per game numbers at any point especially if Dahlin is the top powerplay QB but I wouldn’t be suprised if he became a 50-60+ point defensmen.

The age is the only thing that gives me some pause for Toews. He's been an elite D since he came into the league. His numbers were great his first 2 years when he was with the Isles and they've only continued to improve in Colorado as his role expanded. I wouldn't be surprised if he can keep up at a high level until he's like 32 and by that point so much can change that I don't know which pair would be the successor.

I still cannot believe Lou let Toews go for 2 second rounders …. I know he was in cap trouble but who got them in that cap trouble ? Sucks we’re are in same division or maybe we could have outbid the Avs

It was such a bad deal and one that he really doesn't catch nearly enough flak for. It's one of the worst in the while. He never should've been moved. Instead Lou should've done whatever was necessary to clear up the space to keep Toews for an insane f***ing bargin of 4.1x4. For example just move Leddy who was making 5.5 and who he ended up moving the following year anyway.

Yes . No way he should have let him go. There were other options he should have looked at doing with moving Toews as a very very last resort. Crazy. Sakic must have been doing cartwheels in his office after that deal was made. 1st pair young D for 2 seconds !! Wow.
That deal has to be seen as one of the best trades (Or stupidest) in the recent past. Forsberg for Erat is the only one I can think of that’s as bad .
Bad trades since 2000
Habs trade McDonagh for Gomez
Bruins trade Seguin to Dallas for Loui
Tukka Rask to Boston
JS Giguere to Ducks from Flames
Carter to Jackets
Chara to the Sens from the Isles.

Risto for a 1st and a 2nd is just some lolworthy stuff.
Acquiring a 30 YO OEL who has already significantly declined and is signed for another 6 years and you're getting his cap hit at 7.26 is another move that's just awful.

Yes sorry to get off topic.
I just hope like hell we get one of Jiri Nemec Slaf.
It would fill massive needs and round out our roster perfectly.
Hopefully we get some lotto luck and end up with Slaf somehow.
Iseal situation is we snag one of the Russian kids with 1st round talent that slides to our second pick or we trade up to take one.

I'm not sure who was watching the MHL championships, but Nikita Chibrikov is freaking ridiculous.
Would be interest to see where Wright will play next year and how he will handle NHL if he will spend D+1 season in NHL.
it’s look like NHL is going harder and harder for 18/19 yo players to play.
Very good point. As tough as it's been for Lafreniere and Hughes in their rookie years, I would give Wright another season in the OHL.

I wonder whats the NHL ETA for Slafkovsky?

I've seen all TPS semifinal matches so far and I dont notice him that often. He looks strong and knows how to protect the puck but other than that I sometimes forget he's even playing. Rarely stands out in good or bad.

I'm not a prospect expert or anything and know that young players can take crazy leaps in just one summer, but for now I feel he has to be atleast one full year away.

I give Slafkovsky one more year of experience. He's physically ready for the NHL rigors, but there are subtle areas of his game which would benefit from development and refinement at a lower level.

I've only seen less than 10 games from him (playoffs and Olympics) but he definitely looks like a raw talent at times. Boy in a mans body.

Hopefully no one rushes him next year. I remember watching draft year Puljujarvi and he was always making something happen and we all know how it went for him in NA.

Also dont see that one specific skill or talent that could hide his flaws early on (Laine)

Hey STI, couldn't find your write-up of Owen Sound Attack center Deni Goure (2003 born, 5'10-185), can you imagine his name getting called somewhere in later rounds this year?

If we are in this position next year I will be super disappointed but I'd rather win 1OA next year than this year.
I would obviously rather Bedard/Michkov than anyone in this draft but hopefully we aren’t even in a position where that’s possible next year. Time to take a big step. I’m hoping for one last lucky draw this year. I want the #2 pick and I want Slafkovsky with that pick.
