Prospect Info: 2022 8OA, Marco Kasper

LOL, have you ever watched Wright? The kid can shoot, and he's been in the right places FROM DAY 1, including preseason. His issue is that he doesn't like to move the puck. That's why he got sent down. He's almost the polar opposite of Kasper in every aspect. If Kasper could shoot like him, I wouldn't send him down either.
Have you ever watched Kasper? He's doing all the right things except getting on the scoresheet. That's why he isn't sent down.

Also not sure what being able to shoot matters if you don't score. 1 goal in the first 18 games for Wright. 1 goal the last 12. Is it the shot that's keeping him in the NHL? Really?

When Kasper gets healthy scratched or sent to GR, I'll just tell you I told you so.
I wouldn't be against throwing him a healthy scratch. I've also said that I'd be okay with sending him to GR if it's because we're calling another kid or two up (such as Danielson/Mazur).

What I'm not okay with is having another year outside the playoffs and essentially no rookies getting NHL experience. And I have no idea why any other Red Wings fan would be okay with that.

It's interesting how Top line went worse with Kasper there.

And 4th line scored the important 2-2 goal, and had instantly more impressive numbers with Veleno and without Kasper.

He looked good last night, should have had a goal... got absolutely robbed. I also would not be upset if he went to GR to be the main option. Think with the team winning, and him still being a positive factor there is no reason to change it up yet. Not worried about his offensive output yet, he's a rookie playing the middle. My prediction is a reverse sophomore slump in some form.

Put him in the AHL and bring up Danielson.

We know Kasper can play in the NHL, and that's awesome. He needs to play with higher skilled players and he's not going to do that on the 4th line with the Wings.

Why do we think Danielson should be called up right now? He has been pointless in 8 of his last 9 games and has 3 goals in 33 games on the season.

I have the feeling that he misses too many chances. Doesn't seem to be a killer (at least not yet).

I think it's fine to give him a shot with Larkin and Raymond for a game or two, but if he once again does nothing with that opportunity, he needs to be scratched or sent down for a guy like Watson or Soderblom. I still think he'll be fine, but you're kidding yourself if you think he's doing well. He is trying on every shift, but Zadina also tried on every shift.

To give Danielson a look. I keep hearing how magnificent of a player he is. It'd be good to see where he is at while letting Kasper play 20 mins a night and work on his offense.

I mean, I like him a lot... I just don't think the timing is right. I want to see these guys dominating the AHL before we call them up to Detroit.

I personally would have left Kasper in the AHL for longer for the same reasons, but he did give us a decent spark when he first came up.

He's still contributing on a team that's on a winning streak and in a playoff push. Playing in these bigger games and working through a slump while contributing other ways isn't hurting him.

Todd should give him some rope with Larkin and Raymond and if he's still not doing a whole lot, sure send him down if they lose some games. I don't know if throwing Danielson into the fire of a playoff push with literally 0 NHL experience and only half a season of pro is the way to go though.

High-end goal-scorers would bury the chance Kasper had a good percentage of the time, but far from automatic even for them. it was quite a good shot, forcing a quality save. He did not bobble it in surprise Larkin even passed to him, shovel it toward the net or put a muffin into the goalie's chest. The team is winning, Kasper contriibuting more than some, no one in GR who'd be an obvious upgrade. Probably no roster movement unless one of those three things changes or there's a trade.

At least Kasper got the shot on net and in a decent spot at that. The pass from Larkin wasn't exactly quick or unexpected either, it looked like Larkin was thinking pass the whole way and he didn't put much on it. Even with the slowish pass and hesitation on the shot, Forsberg barely got his glove on it. One of Larkin or Kasper being quicker makes that a goal. Execution was not optimal from Larkin, Kasper, or Forsberg but Forsberg still came out on top. If this is any player on the team besides Kasper we aren't even having this conversation.

Well well well, if it isn't Henkka and his small sample sizes.

What's the math behind the highlight reel save = .064 goals?

Yeah, don't tell me about the sample sizes, or I have to inform how Kasper has ZERO 5-on-5 goals in his 35 games at this season.

ZERO.

That's pretty scary sample size imo.

How this thread feels:

1) I want an Art Ross candidate at center.
2) Detroit does not yet have one.
3) Each prospect that can play center is immediately critiqued according to 1 and 2.
4) Send the kid down.

I don't care if Kasper scores another goal all season. I care if he's continuing to engage in all areas of his game, and that engagement is continuing to help his adjustment to the NHL.

Let it breathe. It's not like the kid has been a turn style and can't keep up with the pace of play at either end. He can have a break as needed, but I don't see anything so far that worries me about how Kasper will end up as an NHL player.
