Plain and simple he may just be afam fox 2.0 and used the lightning as leverage and never intended to sign and had his sights on another team after college. The next CBA better talk about this shit.

It’s JBBs job to make the team enticing to prospects. Also to manage assets. This is a classic JBB blunder just like most of the recent TDL moves.

Definitely not on JBB. If one of the top run organizations in all of pro sports, with some of the best facilities, players, location, etc wasn't enticing enough, that's a Howard problem. JBB made no blunder here.
JBB held on too long and is stuck holding his dick. He’s had three bad TDLs in a row. Imagine if we had jack Thompson in the playoffs this year instead of Perbix? But no, JBB traded him for duke. JBB got us two cups, but he’s been shit since. Including this shit heap. He bad.

The only bad trade was Jeannot. Duclair was great in the regular season, and then had a bad playoffs like most of the team. Even funnier that you think Jack Thompson, who couldn't even crack the vaunted Sharks blueline for long stretches this season, was going to be some savior for Tampa. Bjorkstrand is far from decided as some bad acquisition either, and while Gourde isn't the player he was, he wasn't a problem for the team. He wasn't going to trade their best prospect not named Geekie at the deadline when the plan was to get him signed. I seriously doubt Howard said anything to JBB about his demands, nor was JBB's top concern at that time Howard's ego and feelings. JBB has made mistakes, but only one trade deadline in the last 5 or 6 cam be seen as a pure bust in Jeannot, and the Howard situation is at least 90% on Howard, being generous.

Jack Thompson would still be below Crozier on the depth chart so 0 nhl games for him. Duclair was good for us and teams spend way more than that on shit rentals every year. Bjorkstrand getting injured makes it pretty hard to rate that move.

Also he got us Guentzel very recently which I feel like is pretty good. Steve Yzerman hasn't gotten Detroit a single player that good, so I would say it's pretty hard being a GM. Not saying JBB doesn't make mistakes, but he is still one of the better GMs in the league.

the way this board complains about coaching/management reveals how spoiled we are, teams would kill for what we have.

if howard doesn't want to be a part of an organization that is unbelievably good at developing his specific player type than f*** him, players kill to play here. i'll trust jbb when he says that howard valued choosing his team over the player's agent playing damage control

I see this as probably 70/30 in favorability. We arent what we were and that was probably closer to 90/10. Meaning, virtually anybody we wanted or wanted a cup would give their left nut to play for us. We still have some pull, but not as much. I do think JBB is one of the best GMs in the league but as far as the golden touch he had the first few years, that has fizzled. Still, I'm not keen on him being canned because of what you said... there are some really bad GMs out there and it could be so bad. I do think the pressure will be on him to reclaim a deep run in the next two years or he probably will be on the hot seat, or relieved. If Darche is still hanging around, it could be him. Though, it's alarming how bad some GMs are and the fact that JBB hasn't made such atrocious moves is welcomed. The one truly bad one was the Jeannot trade. He's missed on a couple rentals and UFAs. He flubbed getting any value for Stamkos. So, he's plateaud the last few years and its been hit and miss.

Given how fresh this loss is... im not happy with the team, coaching staff or him. Like Vasy said, the fans deserve better. This group can't even win a f***ing home game in the playoffs anymore. It's very bad stretch and it's like OK Hockey standards in the postseason. Even with a HOF core, it's unacceptable. He needs a hell of a summer here.

Howard is going to get humbled extremely fast in this league. He's not a superstar player who can drive play, unless he finds insane chemistry with a good playmaker (if only we had one) he's going to be out of a top-6 role and unable to fit as a tweener in the bottom lines.

guentzel was an off season move, i am specifically irritated about TDL moves and talking only about that in my post.

IIRC one of the main reasons NCAA guys are going UFA rather than signing with the draft team is that they get to bypass ELC rules, no? Or at least I thought they could...

While I get that, it still takes two to make it happen, and it wasn't a lack of effort, there were talks to get another defender but it was always going to be really hard to pull off as it would require a third party and more retention.

Friday Afternoom Thought: Braden Schneider straight up for Isaac Howard makes a ton of sense for both teams Schneider is really blocked by Fox and now Borgen on right side from the top 4, and has struggled whenever he has gotten elevated in the lineup, I think Drury has an idea about trying him on the left side with Adam Fox but this is where I believe Sullivans input will matter and knows that’s a bad idea.

It makes a ton of sense we get someones blue chip prospect for... let me see... your young defender that has played poorly when elevated in the lineup. Well when you put it like that, sign me up!

Rather do a swap for Willander in VAN. seems like a match made in heaven between both teams.

In Howard's case I don't think it's fair to blame BriseBois entirely. From the moment he was drafted, I thought to myself "this guy is getting traded". Like literally as soon as he finished his interview, I thought there was no chance he'd be a Bolt long term, if at all. He's well within his rights to explore options and I respect that , he doesn't owe TB anything. But doesn't seem like the brightest bulb and might have a bit of an ego to him. And fair enough, I don't have anything against the guy or his confidence. But I am not at all surprised how this has played out, purely based on everything I've ever seen from Howard.
