Prospect Info: 2022 31st Overall Pick | LW Isaac Howard

So I brought up on the MB, Chicago's (provided Chicago is ass again next year) 2nd and 3rd for Howard. Now these would be a highend 2nd and highend 3rd.

Howard's not worth a high first, so that's why I thought of this.

Hey guys, Pens fan here...hope I'm not interrupting better discussion. I'd have to do a little more homework on this before committing (as if I'm actually in charge of anything haha), but would you do...

Assuming that's going to be like 10th overall. Looking at this draft, it looks like there's about 2 or 3 top-10 caliber players, so I don't care about the pick that much. I also assume it can't net us something better that's actually in the NHL. With that said, we'd need Howard to sign right away or else it doesn't make sense for us.

If there's one organization that has experience with liquid assets (draft picks), it's Tampa. So, you guys want to see what you can convert the 10th pick into in short order? I'm sure it could help you get something you like.

I had Howard as mid 1st round caliber prospect in 2022 and I had Shaugabay as a potential B prospect in 2023. So while I'd want to do a deeper dive on the progress there, but assuming I'm not a total boob in my evaluation process back then...would you be cool with liquidating the asset and then swapping the pick for whatever fills an NHL roster need, as JBB has done in recent years?

I would do this. Getting a 10th overall pick feels like a best case scenario.

I don't know if NYR (or any team) likes Howard enough to basically guarantee him NHL ice time.

No one is trading for him to not immediately sign him (or we sign and trade to burn a year).

If Tampa could get a dman from Chicago such as Allen or Del Mastro as the base, or maybe Johannsen from Detroit, that would be solid. A straight picks package isn't going to help Tampa during this window, unless JBB already has another trade lined up where he'll use them I suppose.

I guess because I'm thinking in terms of after the window that we have guys ready to come up which is why the picks. At least potentially

Picks can be pretty much anything. With players and prospects, you have a much better idea of what you're getting.

Agree with you But also with picks you have control and a range of different types of players. This trade with Chicago would be a high 2nd and 3rd which more borders 1st and 2nd round.

Once the window closes, the team is going to be a dumpster fire for awhile. I don't think a 2nd and 3rd round pick, which have less than a 20% chance of even playing on the league, us a better return tha..getting a young dman that can help now at a position of some need.

I'm not against your thought here and would be ok with that. I like picks and Guentze and even Point being a 3rd rounders gives me some hope when stockpiling picks that we can (potentially) rebuild quickly.

Who knows, but if true, it may be that the speculation that the disagreement was that Howard essentially wanted to skip Syracuse entirely next season and be handed a roster spot. If that's the case, yeah, trading him is by far the best option imo.
Dude come to training camp and win spot over Geekie, Gage, ffs Chaffee and than we can talk. Trade him

Howard doesn't seem like a center. If he were, he'd be much more valuable. Being able to slot in after Crosby, Malkin, or Kopitar retire would probably make a trade easier to find.

Some of the elder LWs in the league are Benn and Dadonov with Dallas. Eller and Ovi with Washington. Foligno and Maroon (retiring) with Chicago. JvR with CBJ. Zuccarello with MIN.

All of those guys (except Maroon and Eller) scored at least 15 this season. Maybe they decide to retire, but they can still play.

So what the f*** happened
I've seen other speculate that the team must not of been willing to guarantee him a roster spot next year out of training camp.

I wouldn't be surprised if that was the case tbh.

Would be nice if he could show a little humility but if this really is the case ( speculation I know ), then so long kiddo.

It's either that or he just never wanted to play in Tampa in the first place. Who knows?

JBB should have traded him to Seattle and kept the draft picks. What was he thinking? Was he even thinking?
He thinks ahead and does well, quite often. You assume Seattle even wanted Howard, or that JBB knew the future I guess and still refused to trade him (very doubtful). Moving picks that won't help the team during thelr window for players that will, and, at the time keeping all of the organization's top prospects that could be of some help during the window, either via direct playing time or trade for someone who will, was still the right move to make for where the team is currently positioned.

Anaheim might be faced with having to trade a defenseman.

Jackson Lacombe 24
Olen Zellwegger 21
Pavel Mintyukov 21
Drew Helleson 23
Tristan Luneau 21
Stian Solberg 19
Tarin Smith 19

They might not have the bandwidth to bring them all along.

Why not? young prospect has more value than draft picks
or that JBB knew the future
Well, I think the general manager should know that a certain player doesn't want to play for his organization. Like, it's his job. like call him before the trade deadline and find out if he'll sign at the end of the season or not?
Howard's value is now lower than ever, good luck trading him and getting a good return
